SUMMARY OF DUTIES
Under the supervision of the Supervisor, Arena Operations the Skate/Arena Monitor will assist in patrolling public skating programs and assists with the set up of hockey/ice/arena programs.
GENERAL DUTIES
- Patrols the skating area and ensures that skating moves along.
- Provides information to patrons on recreation programs.
- Assists Facility Operator with maintaining cleanliness, safety and security of the arena facility.
- Assists in patrolling public skating programs and assists with the set-up of hockey and skating programs; tidying up during peak periods and after special events/programs.
- Reports hazards, maintenance concerns and unsafe conditions e.g. ice deficiencies to the Facility Operator
- Works in accordance with the provisions of applicable health and safety legislation and all City of Hamilton corporate and departmental policies and procedures related to occupational health and safety.
- Performs other duties as assigned, which are directly related to the responsibilities of the job.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be at least fourteen (14) years of age at time of application. The minimum age requirement is set under the Ontario Ministry of Labour, Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) according to the Regulation for Industrial Establishments (R.R.O. 1990, Reg. 851).
- Previous experience related to duties listed above.
- Previous ice skating experience.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must be available to work days, evenings, weekends and holidays during a seven-day week operation.
- Must possess and maintain current certification in Standard First Aid with CPR Level C. (This must be clearly identified on your resume.) All Standard First Aid certificates must be issued by a training agency recognized by the Workplace Safety Insurance Board (WSIB). Please refer to the WSIB website wsib.on.ca for approved providers. At time of assessment (which could be as early as days after the posting closes), you will be asked to provide proof that you possess the required certificate(s).
NOTE: As a condition of employment, the successful applicant(s) will be required to obtain a Vulnerable Sector (VS) Check or for those under the age of eighteen (18) a Criminal Record & Judicial Matter (CRJM) Check, at their own expense, prior to beginning work in this position.
