The IPM scout is responsible for assisting the grow team to ensure Freeman Herbs has heathy and pest free crops. The IPM scout will maintain a low pest count and assist in prevention plans for controlling pest and diseases.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists in crop inspection and reports findings in detail to the Grower.
- Maintain and follow through weekly and daily bio plans to completion.
- Complete daily, weekly, monthly IPM reports as required.
- Follow through weekly and daily beneficial as advised by the Grower.
- Apply biologicals in accordance with the Grower and making recommendations for biological purchases.
- Maintain bio health from receiving to placement in greenhouse, including temperature and humidity in storage.
- Receive and check the quality of beneficial insects prior to application in the crop and report any discrepancies.
- Assist in application of IPM products in the greenhouse including beneficial insects.
- Manage banker plant program and improve as needed.
- Responsible for good housekeeping of all scouting equipment/protective equipment in designated areas.
- Scout zones required and track results and findings into computer and use this information to place bios accordingly.
- Replace all sticky cards using the system to log data.
- Maintain inventory of spray room, ensuring all products are satisfactory.
- Ensure spray room is clean, the right temperature, with products organized and clearly labelled
- Maintain knowledge in all pesticide information, including which products to use in each situation, with guidance from the Grower.
- Assist in completing pesticide paperwork, including safety and tracking information.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Horticulture degree or diploma required
- Valid Pesticide/Spray license
- Previous greenhouse and/or IPM experience required.
- Self-motivated, demonstrated leadership skills.
- Knowledge and/or interest in common greenhouse pests.
- Ability to work independently and un-supervised.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
- Skills in following safety practices and recognizing hazards.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Available to work rotating weekends for watering.
