POSITION SUMMARY:
Cabinet Expressions Ltd is looking to fill 2 positions for Commercial Millwork Estimators based out of our Coalhurst, Alberta location at 5410 2 St. Coalhurst, AB, T0V 0V0 to start as soon as possible. The Commercial Millwork Estimator plays a critical part in the success of our projects by preparing accurate cost estimates and bid proposals for commercial millwork jobs. Reporting directly to the Owner, the Estimator collaborates closely with project managers, designers, engineers, and clients to ensure that each project is well-assessed, competitively priced, and set up for success. The Commercial Millwork Estimator has a deep understanding of millwork construction, materials, and economics, coupled with strong analytical and communication skills. Success in this role depends on accuracy, relationship-building, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, detail-driven environment.
WORKING CONDITIONS & BENEFITS:
This is a full-time, permanent role. The work schedule is Monday to Friday, working 30-40 hours per week. Following a successful 90-day probationary period, the company provides health, vision, dental, paramedical and disability benefits. 50% of the benefit premiums are paid by the company. Public transportation is not available, candidates must live in the community, or vicinity, or have their own transportation.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Project Evaluation & Estimating:
  • Review project specifications and drawings to assess scope, requirements, and deliverables.
  • Prepare estimates of labour and/or material costs.
  • Prepare estimates for general expenses and overheads.
  • Provide economic feasibility studies and preliminary estimates for proposed projects.
  • Operate CADD and other computer software systems.
  • Read blueprints, drawings specifications to determine work requirements.
  • Utilize estimating software (Innergy) and tools to perform accurate quantity takeoffs.
Bid Preparation:
  • Create and submit estimate reports, quote sheets and bids forms.
  • Utilize quantity take-off procedures.
  • Align bids with client expectations and internal pricing strategies.
  • Ensuring bid compliance with quality standards.
Vendor and Subcontractor Relations:
  • Coordinate with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain accurate quotes for materials and services.
  • Liaise, consult and communicate with engineers, architects, owners, contractors and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates.
Documentation:
  • Maintain organized and up-to-date records of estimates, bid proposals, revisions, and related documentation.
  • Communicate effectively with internal teams to ensure a seamless transition from estimating to project execution.
Client Collaboration:
  • Collaborate with clients to understand needs and ensure alignment with estimates.
  • Assist with design consultations to gather essential information and provide expert advice.
Material Selection:
  • Recommend and select appropriate materials, finishes, and hardware based on design concepts, functionality, and budget considerations.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and new materials to incorporate innovative elements into designs.
Collaboration with Production Team:
  • Collaborate with the production team to ensure that design concepts are feasible and can be efficiently manufactured.
  • Provide detailed documentation to facilitate smooth production processes.
  • Other duties as assigned.
PREFERRED/REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Interior Design, Architecture, Construction Trades, Construction Engineering or Engineering Technology, or equivalent experience.
  • 1 year to less than 2 years of experience in commercial and/or industrial construction.
  • Familiarity with Innergy or similar estimating software and tools.
  • Operate CAD based programs and other computer software systems.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and precision.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, maps, drawings and specifications.
  • Provide economic feasibility studies and preliminary estimates for proposed projects.
  • Ability to multi-task and stay organized.
  • Skilled in use of Microsoft Excel.
  • Valid WHMIS training. (training available upon hire if needed)
  • Project size estimating experience up to $5,000,000.
