Heavy Equipment Mechanic

Diagnose and perform repairs and services on company-owned and rental equipment.

Key Responsibilities

- Perform the roles and responsibilities for Field Mechanic as listed on the Accountability Chart.
- Analyze and diagnose equipment malfunctions.
- Perform preventative maintenance on company owned and rental fleet.
- Repair and troubleshoot engines, fuel systems, final drives, hydraulic components, including pumps, motors, valves, and all related components, electrical and air systems.
- Write service reports that accurately document activities.
- Prepare required documentation including work orders, parts lists, and timecards in an accurate and timely manner.
- Perform assigned tasks in a timely, accurate and efficient manner.
- Follow manufacturer and company service guidelines and procedures to ensure safe quality work and to preserve and document component failure information for accurate failure analysis.
- Maintain a safe working environment and observe all safety procedures, laws, policies, and rules.
- Communicate with equipment manager and field managers in a manner which promotes a positive relationship.
- Work overtime as needed and within labor law guidelines.
- Perform additional assignments and special projects as directed.
Basic Qualifications
- High school diploma/GED or equivalent.
- The following experience is required:
- Five plus years of Heavy Equipment Mechanic experience.
- Valid Driver's License (Class A or Class B, with Air Brake endorsement) and ability to drive on behalf of company business.
Preferred Qualifications
- The following safety training is preferred, but not mandatory. Company will provide additional training, as necessary.
- WHMIS 2015
- General Mine Safety Awareness
- Competent Person Safety Training
- First Aid and CPR
Physical Demands & Work Environment
This role requires lifting up to 50 pounds, extended standing or walking on project sites, climbing in and out of equipment, and working in confined spaces or at heights. Work conditions and demands may vary, with possible exposure to heavy machinery, chemicals, dust, fumes, noise, and extreme weather. Proper PPE, including protective eyewear, gloves, a hard hat, and steel-toed boots, is required. Effective communication, tool use, and adherence to safety protocols are essential.
