The Mikisew Cree First Nation (Mikisew) has lived on the ancestral lands of the Athabasca Delta and Wood Buffalo National Park in northeastern Alberta since time immemorial. Many of our members live in the hamlet of Fort Chipewyan, and our traditional lands range over a large portion of Athabasca oil sands deposits.

Who You Are

The Mikisew Cree Awasis Kisiwatsowin Societys Finance Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the administrative, operational, and financial functions of the organization. This role ensures that both office management and financial operations run smoothly, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable regulations. The individual in this position will work closely with the leadership team and other staff to ensure delivery of optimal service to children and families while maintaining organizational efficiency and financial integrity.

This position is in Fort McMurray, AB.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Maintain office workflow procedures to ensure maximum efficiency of the office.
  • Provide supervision and direction to CFS Front Desk Administrator.
  • Manage all office contracts/service agreements and assets information, including cell phone management and fleet management.
  • Perform basic bookkeeping activities and update accounting system.
  • Assist in preparing and monitoring the annual budget for the organization.
  • Obtaining and completing direct billing applications and setting up accounts for vendors
  • Ensure timely payments of bills, invoices, and other financial obligations
  • Assist in vendor relationship management, including meetings with vendors to discuss any issues and to improve vendor relationship.
  • Completion and uploading of monthly /annual funding reports
  • Assist in preparing reports and documentation for leadership, board meetings, and funding organizations
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in business administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in office management, financial management, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of basic bookkeeping principles and office management systems and procedures
  • Proficiency in office software (Microsoft Office Suite, QuickBooks, or similar financial management software).
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with families, staff, and external stakeholders effectively.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Organized with the ability to prioritize and multi-task
  • Previous experience working with Childrens Services preferable
  • Experience working knowledge of First Nations culture, traditions and values is a definite asset.
  • Ability to speak Dene or Cree is an asset

  • Intervention Record Check
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Excel, Teams and virtual meeting platforms.
  • Possess exceptional judgement and always maintain high confidentiality in all interactions.
  • Must be reliable and be prepared to work irregular hours depending on job demands.
  • Must sign Oath of Confidentiality form.
