The Opportunity
Picton Mahoney Asset Managementis presently seeking a Data Engineer to join the newly formed Data team. Using your excellent communication skills, you are capable of conversing with both technical and non-technical colleagues and are comfortable contributing to a highly multidisciplinary team. Leveraging a rich knowledge of Azure cloud and SQL database design and multiple programming languages, the Data Engineer will be responsible for designing, building, and optimizing systems for data collection, storage, and analytics at scale. The successful incumbent will play a crucial role in collecting, managing, and converting raw data into high quality and high impact pipelines as well as constructing dataset procedures that will have an immediate and transformative impact on the business.
The ideal candidate is an experienced data pipeline builder and data wrangler who enjoys optimizing data systems and building them from the ground up. The Data Engineer will support our software developers, database architects, data product owners, web solutions architect and others on data initiatives and will ensure optimal data delivery architecture is consistent throughout ongoing projects. They must be self-directed and comfortable supporting the data needs of multiple teams, systems and products. The right candidate will be excited by the prospect of optimizing or re-designing our companys data architecture to support our next generation of products and data initiatives. This opportunity requires a successful candidate to work in a flexible hybrid model out of our head office in Toronto, Ontario.
Youll have the opportunity to lead and learn:
- Design, develop, and maintain ETL pipelines.
- Automate data ingestion from different data sources.
- Assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional business requirements.
- Optimize workflows for performance, scalability, and reliability.
- Implement data validation, deduplication and integrity checks.
- Optimize query performance and ensure cost-efficient data storage.
- Manage data lakes, warehouses, marts and databases.
- Build analytics tools that utilize the data pipeline to provide actionable insights into customer acquisition, operational efficiency and other key business performance metrics.
- Work with stakeholders including the Executive, Product, Data and Development teams to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data needs.
- Document data flows, architecture, and pipeline dependencies.
- Provide support for troubleshooting and optimizing queries/pipelines.
What were looking for
- The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of experience in a Data Engineer role, who has attained a Graduate degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Informatics, Information Systems or another quantitative field.
- Certifications: Azure Certifications preferred
- Advanced working MS-SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL) as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases.
- Experience building and optimizing big data data pipelines and data sets.
- Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Strong analytic skills related to working with unstructured datasets.
- Build processes supporting data transformation, data structures, metadata, dependency and workload management.
- Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment.
- Experience on designing and developing scripts for custom ETL processes and automation in Azure data factory, Azure data bricks, Snowflake, Python, Pyspark etc.
- Good knowledge of AZURE Cloud platform services stack - Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL Database, AZURE Data Warehouse, Azure data bricks, Snowflake, Azure Blob Storage, Azure Data Lake Storage, HD Insight, Cosmos DB, etc.
- Experience using the following software/tools:
- Big data tools: Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, etc.
- MS-SQL
- Azure cloud services
- Data pipeline and workflow management tools: Azkaban, Luigi, Airflow, etc.
- Object-oriented/object function scripting languages: C#, python.
