About the Position

The Director, Information Technology (IT) is responsible for the effective and efficient operations of Scarlet Security & Risk Group's internally managed computer infrastructure and related areas of technology. This includes the development, implementation and maintenance of company IT systems and security, network management, software platforms, data storage infrastructure, systems and policy in support of the organization's operations and strategic goals. This includes compliance with related standards and legislation, including privacy.

The Director, IT will oversee the IT department, providing leadership in IT infrastructure, system development, network management, day-to-day operations, troubleshooting, and maintenance.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identify, implement, maintain, and oversee appropriate IT systems aligned with operational and strategic goals.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor IT policies and best practices.
  • Evaluate current IT infrastructure, security, and systems to identify areas for improvement and functionality upgrades.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and upgrade systems and software.
  • Lead and develop the IT support team.
  • Develop systems to ensure employee technical issues are resolved efficiently.
  • Research and evaluate new technologies to enhance or upgrade existing server, network, and IT infrastructure equipment.
  • Ensure the security of data, network access, backup systems, and remote/field hardware.
  • Manage IT staff through recruiting, training, coaching, and performance appraisal.
  • Plan and track short-term and long-term IT projects.
  • Prepare and manage the annual IT department budget.
  • Lead and manage the IT department's daily operations, including troubleshooting issues, managing system updates, and ensuring robust security measures.
  • Stay current with technological advancements and recommend, implement, and maintain appropriate software and systems to support the organization's operations.
  • Oversee and optimize on-premises servers, network equipment, phone systems, and data storage across Canadian locations.
  • Negotiate vendor pricing and manage contracts and renewals.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership and stakeholders to align IT initiatives with organizational goals.
  • Participate actively in strategic planning initiatives.
  • Lead and contribute to cross-functional teams as necessary.
  • Communicate ongoing plans and updates effectively to direct reports.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, or related field
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in an IT management role, including managing a team and having hands-on experience with network and data system management and security
  • Extensive experience in data and network management, security, and MS Office products
  • Strong knowledge of Azure, M365, backup technology, disaster recovery, and enterprise-wide patch management
  • Exceptional leadership, organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills, including negotiation and presentation skills
  • Proven ability to build effective relationships with internal stakeholders
  • An empathetic and impartial approach to problem solving that seeks to understand issues and resolve conflict both effectively and efficiently
  • Ability to communicate complex technological issues in a clear and simple manner, that is appropriate to the audience
  • Ability to adapt to frequently changing work priorities and serve as a change agent
  • Ability for occasional travel within Canada

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Competitive salary range of $110,000 to $135,000 annually, based on experience.

Work Location and Availability:

The successful candidate must be based in the Lower Mainland area of British Columbia. The position works both remotely and from an SSRG office in the Lower Mainland. Travel across Canada may be needed. The position generally works traditional office hours but may be required to be available outside of scheduled hours to respond to urgent matters that may arise.
