As Health & Safety Manager, you will lead the development, execution, and continuous improvement HSE programs. You'll drive a proactive safety culture, ensure regulatory excellence, and help shape a high-performing, safety-first workforce aligned with our values of land protection, respect, and community well-being. Travel: Minimal, office-based role
Salary: $80k - $90k, plus health benefits, RRSP matching, annual bonuses (The final salary will reflect the qualifications, relevant experience, expertise, and professional designations that each candidate brings to the role. Key Responsibilities:
- Elevate Safety Culture: Foster a workplace where safety is fully integrated into daily actions, decision-making, and team leadership.
- Achieve High Compliance: Maintain or exceed compliance with WorkSafeBC, SAFE Certification, and COR Audit standards.
- Strengthen Internal Systems: Optimize the online safety management system for full user adoption across offices and field staff.
- Develop Future Leaders: Coach and mentor your direct report (Safety & Training Coordinator) and aspiring HSE professionals.
- Enhance Emergency Preparedness: Streamline and test Emergency Response procedures across locations.
- Drive Continuous Improvement: Identify risks, track key metrics, and recommend pragmatic safety solutions that drive real results.
- Deliver Strategic Reporting: Provide leadership with clear, actionable safety performance updates and trend analyses.
As a Health & Safety Manager you will:
- Design, implement, and continuously improve HSE management systems, policies, and standards.
- Lead accident/incident investigations, oversee WCB claims, and manage return-to-work programs.
- Act as a trusted advisor to leadership and project teams, providing technical safety expertise and practical advice.
- Manage the Emergency Response Team and related protocols.
- Lead JOHSC activities, monthly safety meetings, and site audits/inspections.
- Own the development, rollout, and tracking of internal HSE training programs.
- Monitor performance, analyze data trends, and prepare regular safety performance reports.
- Support industry certification programs (e.g., SAFE, COR, Avetta, ISN).
- Promote, celebrate, and embed a culture of “Zero Harm” across all levels of the organization.
- 5–10+ years' experience in Health & Safety leadership (consulting, environmental, land management, or resource sectors preferred).
- NCSO Certification required; CRSP designation highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of WorkSafeBC, COR, SAFE, and other regulatory frameworks.
- Proven success building or improving HSE programs in a dynamic, multi-site environment.
- A leadership style that is proactive, approachable, and solutions-focused.
- Excellent communication, coaching, and change management skills.
- Solid analytical ability and confidence preparing reports for executive leadership.
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License
