Job Summary: It is the function of the Food Safety & Regulatory Specialist to ensure that the product of the Norfolk Fruit Growers Association and the Norfolk Cherry Company meets the highest quality standards and regulatory requirements. This position collaborates with the HACCP/Food Safety/PCQI Specialist to ensure that product is manufactured in compliance with all regulatory requirements, company standards, and customer specifications for safety, quality, and consistency. Serve as the organization's subject matter expert on regulatory compliance related to food safety and quality assurance, acting as the primary resource for internal teams and external stakeholders on applicable regulations, standards, and best practices. This role requires an individual who is humble, driven, and is solutions oriented.

Role and Accountability:
  • Monitors and interprets regulations to ensure compliance with food safety standards and industry best practices.
  • Quality assurance across all stages, from raw fruit to finished product, and ongoing quality control of stored fruit prior to shipment. Including packing materials ( cardboards, bags, trays, etc.)”
  • Conducts audits and supports certification efforts, ensuring documentation and processes meet required standards.
  • Ensures correct labeling and packaging compliance with local and international food safety standards.
  • Works on sustainability initiatives related to food safety and quality.
  • Provides technical expertise to both the QA Manager and HACCP Manager for compliance tracking and implementation.
  • Acts as a backup for the HACCP/Food Safety/PCQI Specialist when they are out of the office (OOO), ensuring continuity in leadership and decision-making for the HACCP department.
  • Supports the preparation and management of internal and external audits.
  • Ensures all regulatory documents are accurate and accessible.
  • Maintain comprehensive expertise in regulatory requirements affecting food safety and quality assurance, ensuring the organization's adherence and acting as a liaison with regulatory bodies as needed
  • Provides external expertise in food safety regulations and compliance.
  • Consulted for any changes in regulations, food safety standards, and training updates.
  • Supports HACCP, audit preparation, and other compliance-related activities.
  • Attend meetings and represent their role, championing initiatives aimed at enhancing organizational efficiency and effectiveness for all employees as requested
  • Leads by example, fostering teamwork, mutual respect, and continuous improvement throughout all operational activities.
  • Participate in other Level 10 meetings to contribute to organizational effectiveness.
  • Monitor and coach team members, ensuring adherence to company values and performance standards.
  • Support cross-functional collaboration by ensuring information flows smoothly between departments.
  • Promote process improvements within their team and manage change effectively.
  • Utilize Microsoft To-Do (or similar) for task tracking and reminders, ensuring productivity and accountability.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge and familiarity with production line operations and procedures.
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written. Have a high degree of emotional intelligence and demonstrated ability to effectively communicate to different audiences and manage interpersonal relationships at all levels of the organization.
  • Self-starter and eager to learn new concepts, skills, and systems.
  • Ability to lead a department through ongoing coaching and performance reviews
  • Agility to adapt to change, manage evolving issues or situations, backfill critical roles where required.
  • High level of organization, attention to detail, and accuracy.
  • Excellent time management, with the ability to prioritize and delegate where required.

Education and Experience:
  • Post-secondary education in Agriculture, Food Science, or related field is considered an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of HACCP programs and their administration and implementation
  • Knowledge of orchard operations and food processing an asset
  • Experience in certification of quality control and food safety programs is a strong advantage.

Salary 65,000 to 80,000 annually
