Your Role as an Distribution Designer

Reporting to the Supervisor of Transmission & Distribution Engineering Services, as an Distribution Designer, you will support overhead distribution projects by drafting and reviewing designs, conducting field visits, and coordinating with internal teams and clients. Working under the guidance of senior designers and engineers, you will contribute to the delivery of high-quality design packages, help maintain documentation standards, and support project and client communications.

Your Key Accountabilities

  • Technical and Documentation
    • Draft and review designs and technical drawings for overhead distribution systems using CAD software.
    • Create bills of material for design packages.
    • Interpret engineering calculations and instructions to determine design requirements.
    • Conduct site visits under supervision to assess conditions and collect data, including terrain, right-of-way, and existing infrastructure.
    • Prepare scopes of work and condition assessment reports.
    • Perform QA/QC checks as directed.
    • Maintain technical records and documentation in accordance with company standards and best practices.
  • Business Development and Client Management
    • Assist in preparing drawings and 3D models.
    • Support client meetings to gather technical requirements and communicate updates.
    • Assist with proposal development.
    • Collaborate with clients to ensure satisfaction and address concerns with guidance as needed.
  • Project Coordination and Management
    • Support project execution by coordinating tasks and reporting time accurately.
    • Contribute to meeting minutes, progress reports, and documentation.
    • Coordinate with teams, clients, and contractors to ensure projects stay on scope, schedule, and budget.
    • Provide input on challenges and recommendations for resolution.
  • Professional Development
    • Engage in relevant training, mentorship, and industry events.
    • Support junior designer development and seek guidance to continue personal growth.
    • Build technical expertise in specific design areas.

Qualifications

  • A diploma in Civil or Electrical Engineering Technology or a related field is required.
  • 2 to 7 years of relevant experience in a design role.
  • Actively pursuing or possessing CET certification is an asset.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation required.
  • Familiarity with industry codes, standards, and drafting practices.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of CSA 22.3 and ArcGIS considered assets.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and sustainable design practices.
  • Valid drivers license and access to a personal vehicle.
  • Willingness to travel and conduct site visits as needed.

Term: Full-Time, Permanent
(40 hours/week)
