The Head Server is responsible for ensuring food is served in a courteous and efficient manner, following proper food handling practices, while providing oversight of work schedules, staff performance, sanitation, and safety.

Objective:
Ensure the provision of high-quality standards as they relate to food service at The Berkeley.

Food Service:

  • Serve meals in a courteous and efficient manner, providing exemplary customer service.
  • Maintain knowledge of the menu, dietary restrictions, and available items.
  • Strictly adhere to food and safety standards.
  • Follow correct serving techniques for all types of food and beverage on the menu.
  • Listen to and solicit resident feedback regarding their dining experience.
  • Ensure serving areas, dining room, dishes, floors, etc. are cleaned and set to specific standards.

Supervisory:

  • Provide orientation and ongoing training to team members.
  • Direct and guide team members on the correct serving techniques.
  • Collaborate closely with the General Manager regarding performance issues and complete annual performance evaluations for team members.
  • Create schedules to ensure efficient and productive service for all meals.
  • Promote The Berkeley's Ethics Policy to all staff under their direction and act in accordance with The Berkeley Ethics Policy.
  • Maintain knowledge of and act in accordance with Company Standards, Conduct and Expectations.
  • Promote a positive team spirit within the Dining Room.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Previous serving experience in a similar setting.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and listening skills.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment and to manage when times are slow.
  • Empathy for, and an understanding of older adults, aging in place and cognitive impairment.
  • Positive attitude and the ability to build relationships.
  • Patient and friendly with demonstrated experience in problem solving.
  • Ability to work a variety of shifts: days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
