Job Description

The Health, Safety and Environment Coordinator ensures health and safety and environment compliance and provides support for onsite HSE support.

Main Responsibilities:

  1. Collaborate actively with plant operations and maintenance staff in all health, safety and environment topics
  2. Collaborate with teams for SOP compliance, creation and benchmarking
  3. Responsible for assisting in corporate programs rollout for EHS purposes
  4. Responsible for creating and fostering an onsite health and safety culture
  5. Responsible for root cause analysis participation and review/facilitation
  6. Responsible for assisting in ISO audit and recertification
  7. Responsible for monitoring occupational medical surveillance program and protocols
  8. Conduct compliance audits (environmental, health and safety) on site, submit recommendations, help while results are pending and ensure follow up of corrective actions
  9. Standardize, update and draft documents and procedures associated with files processed
  10. Ensure follow-up of environmental incidents and work accidents
  11. If necessary, train employees on the application of certain regulations and procedures related to the health, safety and environment at work
  12. Conduct investigations of incidents and accidents and follow up of corrective actions
  13. Ensure good communication and cooperation with corporate teams SST and Environment;
  14. Collaborate to update the site emergency plans
  15. Ensure that the environmental monitoring of the site is executed (groundwater, process water, storm water, air emissions, etc.) and is consistent
  16. Respond to customers audit questionnaires, and is attend and support during the audit as required
  17. Assisting with industrial hygiene
  18. Assist in managing environmental nonconformities (received by authorities)
  19. Monitor the site when shutdown
  20. Participate in health and safety committees
  21. Ensure good communication with WCB representatives as necessary
  22. Attend, if needed, the person in charge of claims files
  23. Ensure the compliance of subcontractors and their pre-qualification
  24. Train and inform workers of Veolia and subcontractors
  25. Other duties as assigned
Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Environmental training, or health and safety related training
  • 5-8 years of experience in an industrial area
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations on environment, health and safety.
  • Ability to work in teams
  • Ability to prioritize, organize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Professional attitude oriented towards customer satisfaction
  • Dynamic, interpersonal skills
  • Ability to persuade and communicate ideas

Work Environment:

Permanent position, offered on a full-time basis.

Spends ~70% of their time on the site in an industrial plant setting, ~30% in an office environment. Comfortable in industrial plant settings, able to use respiratory protection (clean shaven), comfortable with stairs, working at heights and confined space entry.

Salary: $60,000-$75,000/year + eligible for company annual bonus program
