- Maintain the current H & S Program:
- Ensure all policies in use contain the current Legislative requirements (inform H&S Department of errors or omissions).
- Ensure that all Safe Work Practices & Safe Work (job) Procedures present on each job site.
- Prepare site-specific risk assessments and site-specific Safe Work Procedures as required.
- Ensure that all workers & supervisors have the current legislated H&S training, and each person can produce a valid training card to Ministry Inspectors when on the job site
- Arrange & provide training to the workers & supervisors as required and communicate the schedule with the H&S Department
- Ensure that all legislative Posting Requirements are present on job sites
- Ensure work plans are present on all projects when Working at Heights.
- Ensure Emergency Response documentation including site specific Fall Arrest Rescue procedure is understood by all parties working on site and available on site
- Maintain frequent contact via email and telephone with the Health & Safety Department National Manager in Ontario
- Enforce the Implementation of the H & S program
- Visit job sites and conduct spot inspections of site documentation/reports and equipment
- Maintain records of site visits.
- Ensure site Safety & Toolbox Talks are being done (safety talks are provided by H&S Department and use of local site-specific safety talks).
- Ensure Practices & Procedures are being followed.
- Conduct in house training sessions as required and on an annual basis in tandem with the H&S Department.
- Conduct accident/incident investigations
- Interact with Ministry Inspectors as required.
- Involvement with Injury Claims (assisting H&S Manager)
- As per the Return-to-work Program
- H&S Department shall be informed of all injuries / Investigations
- Provide documents and reports requested by TRG-H&S Department
- familiar with WorkSafe BC
- familiar with construction activities
- organizing training sessions & provide H&S training in tandem with plans from the H&S Department
- familiar with BC provincial H&S ACTs, Regulations & Codes
- report writing skills
- Health & Safety Certificates of training
- have two (2) years of experience in a Health and Safety Role with a company in the construction industry.
- have Knowledge and Training with the Risk Assessment process & identification of hazards
- have experience with functioning on a construction site and conducting/documenting inspections and accident investigations
- have experience and/or confidence to participate or lead in-house training review sessions
- Note: a formal degree or diploma in the H&S discipline is an asset but not a requirement.
