Cloudhead Games is the veteran VR studio behind the multi-award winning titles, Pistol Whip, an action-rhythm shooter (GOTY, DICE Awards) and the fantasy adventure series, The Gallery (GOTY, VR Awards.) As a Senior Environment Artist at Cloudhead Games, you will play a major role in defining the visual identity of our upcoming projects. Youll work closely with the Art Director, designers, and engineers to build immersive, high-quality environments that look stunning and feel great in VR.
What you would do:
- Design and build visually rich, high-fidelity 3D environments tailored for VR in Unity.
- Develop optimized, real-time materials that elevate immersion and atmosphere.
- Create compelling world spaces using a mix of modular assets and level layout techniques.
- Partner with the Art Director & Art Leads to establish and maintain cohesive environmental aesthetics.
- Integrate and polish game assets to meet our visual and technical standards.
- Contribute to R&D efforts for new tools, workflows, and rendering techniques that enhance our pipeline.
- Provide mentorship and feedback to junior artists and support cross-discipline collaboration.
What you will bring:
- 7+ years of professional experience in 3D environment art, ideally on AAA or high-quality indie titles.
- Proven expertise building immersive VR environments in Unity.
- Deep understanding of lighting, texturing and rendering optimization.
- Proficiency in industry-standard tools: Maya, Substance Painter/Designer and Unity.
- Solid grasp of art fundamentals: composition, color theory, lighting, and mood.
- Well developed visual sensibility and a strong sense of aesthetics.
- Comfortable working with procedural workflows and environment storytelling techniques.
- Excellent communication, organizational skills, and a collaborative mindset.
- Self-driven, proactive, and passionate about all things art and games.
Nice to have:
- Experience with stylized and realistic visual styles.
- Previous work on shipped VR titles.

Cloudhead Games is committed to pay that feels fair, and that fits in with our overall compensation philosophy focused on work life balance. We welcome candidates to have conversations with our recruitment team regarding their salary expectations and how they align with our established ranges. As we better understand your skillset, it may be determined that your experience aligns more with a higher or lower level of seniority. We will always try to be proactive in communication with applicants about where they might fall in a seniority band.
The salary range for this position is CAD $90k-$110k.
