Under the direction of the Vice President, Business Development and Marketing, the Communications and Marketing Director will be primarily responsible for crafting content, developing key messages, and reviewing the integrity and accuracy of public-facing content and employee-facing communications generated.
This position also requires strong event coordination skills, particularly to support the planning and logistical requirements for major, national security and defence tradeshows (e.g CANSEC and DEFSEC). Experience coordinating and supporting tradeshows is a strong asset.
The daily tasks associated with this role include planning for, crafting and/or editing content for communications and marketing materials and projects, including social media posts, newsletters, presentations, websites, blogs, articles, brochure content, media releases, announcements, advertisements, and other informational, promotional and brand-related content. It also includes daily tasks related to event coordination to ensure RSVPs, event logistics, briefings, swag orders, planning meetings, and liaison with tradeshow organizers meet all commitments and deadlines.
This role includes quality control reviews of content requested by other departments to be posted on external and internal websites, microsites, social media accounts, and other communications channels managed by the department.
This individual has strong writing skills and experience implementing the components of communications, marketing, content strategies, and event coordination. They will also contribute ideas and provide feedback on visual concepts, graphics, branding elements, corporate storytelling, storyboarding, templates, formatting, videos, photography, and marketing collateral for marketing, advertising, sponsorships, and events.
Job Description/Responsibilities/Duties:
- Communications and Content
- Primarily responsible for crafting content, developing key messages, and reviewing the integrity and accuracy of public-facing content and employee-facing communications.
- Continuously researches and fact checks for content accuracy and consistency, news/social trends, industry-specific terminology, and new/emerging industry standards.
- Researches and identifies target audiences associated with campaign objectives.
- Plans for, crafts and/or edits content for newsletters, presentations, websites, blogs, articles, brochure content, media releases, announcements, advertisements, and other informational, promotional and brand-related content.
- Coordinates, reviews for quality control and edits content received by other departments to be posted on external and internal websites, microsites, social media accounts, and other communications channels.
- Event Coordination
- Leads the coordinates events.
- Leads major, national tradeshows (such as CANSEC and DEFSEC), which requires weeks of planning, logistics, liaison with tradeshow organizers, swag orders, RSVP of participants, briefings, etc.
- Social Media Quality Control and Brand Protection
- Proactive: Leads the planning for, crafting and/or editing content for social media.
- Preparedness: Leads social media monitoring and posting.
- Contributes to ongoing research to learn, stay current with trends in popular culture, and monitor for risks and opportunities on social media and online.
- Marketing and Advertising
- Leads marketing and advertising campaigns from concept and monitoring, to reporting and analysis.
- Leads processes, planning, prioritization, and tracking activities for marketing and advertising campaigns.
- Leads in the development of visual concepts, graphics, branding elements, corporate storytelling, storyboarding, templates, formatting, videos, photography, and marketing collateral.
- Conducts reviews of the effectiveness of communications and marketing efforts, including analytics and metrics.
- 10+ years of experience in a combination of marketing, communications, social media, events planning/coordination and advertising.
- Bachelor's degree (preferred) in in marketing, communications, public relations, journalism, advertising and/or equivalent experience.
- Proven track record of enabling business growth through leadership in marketing, communications, social media, events planning/coordination and advertising.
- Knowledge and experience in the Canadian Defence/Security Industry and/or in the Federal government (i.e. DND/CAF).
- Experience with data analysis and reporting tools.
- Exceptional communication skills.
- Able to obtain and maintain a Government Secret level Security Clearance.
- Able to go onsite 3-4 days a week to our Ottawa office.
