We want to do great things; we need your help As our new Lead Civil Design Engineer, you will take leadership and project management role with our civil engineering design team. Working with a small but growing group of civil engineers, and with support from our stateside team, you'll be responsible for managing and directing the delivery of large-scale transit and transportation projects. We are currently engaged in exciting, transformative projects in the GTA with major clients including Metrolinx and the TTC. Your work will contribute directly to the success of these, and other projects. You'll plan, organize, and coordinate all civil design activities. You'll serve as a coach and mentor to your team, as you oversee their design work and deliverables to ensure our projects remain on time and within scope and budget. Due to the size and complexity of these projects, there will be a great deal of communication, iteration, and adaptation during the design process. Succeeding here will require equal parts technical expertise and ingenuity, as the project moves from concept to construction. When you're not engaged in technical review and evaluation of designs, you will serve as a key technical liaison and consultant to our clients. Bringing with you strong interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills, you will be able to navigate challenging client relationships with ease and integrity. With your technical expertise and familiarity with local municipal transportation entities and transit agencies, you will also be a critical support for our business development efforts, as you leverage your industry relationships to support us as we expand our presence and impact in the GTA. There will be a great deal of autonomy in this role, and an opportunity to serve as a key decision maker on our team. Your tasks will include: * Oversee the delivery of large-scale transit/transportation projects * Supervise, coordinate, and direct the work of a design teams, including review of suitability of all civil engineering concepts and civil design * Sign and seal drawings related to civil design * Attend project meetings and provide technical expertise for clients, other engineers, and management as it relates to all project design activities * Consult with senior engineering staff and clients on milestones, project updates, budgets/costing etc. * Monitor project progress and produce status reports as necessary * Prepare and monitor scopes of work and methodologies, and forecast budgets/cost and project schedules * Support business development efforts inclusive of proposal writing, presentations, conference attendance, and active participation in industry associations * Provide consultation services to internal and external stakeholders * Coordinate with other design consultants for project delivery Working with Gannett Fleming With 40 offices across North America, and a team comprised of 2500 employees globally, Gannett Fleming has a far-reaching impact in the industry. Core business hours are Monday to Friday, 8 am – 5 pm, but flexibility is required (and during peak activity, some overtime required) to meet client and project demands. We have offices all over the world, and while you won't be required to travel, there will be opportunities to collaborate with our other teams, including our new office in Vancouver. Qualifications * Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering * Registered Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) license in the Province of Ontario is required * 10-15+ years of experience in transit/transportation planning, operation and engineering (15+ preferred) * Experience managing large and complex projects for transit and freight rail clients * Experienced in track, station and civil design on large scale transit/transportation projects and solid and in-depth understanding of design processes and operations modeling * High level of proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D * Proficient in site grading, storm sewer, sanitary sewer, watermain, private utilities and drainage design; street improvement design and public works design * Experience in site development * Experience leading design teams and mentoring junior engineers * Experience with business development preferred (e.g. developing leads aiding in winning new work, preparing proposals for new work) * Experience with project management (building project teams, managing project staffing, forecasting and managing budget/cost/project schedule) * Coordinating with other design consultants within joint venture partnership Preferred Requirements: * Proficient in hydrology/hydraulic design and calculations * Experience with transit related projects including facilities * Experience in transit facility design How to Apply Please submit your application online, via the Fitzii platform.
