We are the premier houseboat destination on Shuswap Lake, with 1100 km of shoreline to explore onboard our luxurious Twin Anchor houseboats. Our guests have the ability to adventure and see the many highlights of the lake or relax on their houseboat while creating lifelong memories. We are located at the largest marina on Shuswap lake surrounded by mountain scenery, providing the perfect location for after work adventures and to work in beautiful Sicamous, BC. Job Title:
Marine Mechanic Technician Twin Anchors Houseboats
Job Description:
Perform mechanical inspections, repairs, and routine maintenance on houseboats in accordance with Twin Anchors' Quality System and established timeframes. Operate the service boat to address mechanical issues and resolve problems while guests are on the lake. Ensure all mechanical systems, appliances, and equipment are fully operational and meet company standards prior to guest departure. Respond to on-water service calls efficiently, following safety protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs), to maintain guest satisfaction and contribute to an outstanding vacation experience.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Follow all houseboat and equipment checklists as outlined in the Quality System; ensure turn sheets are maintained to expected standards
- Perform thorough mechanical inspections on returning houseboats
- Operate the service boat to address guest issues promptly and ensure boats are operating efficiently while on the lake
- Collaborate with all Twin Anchors crew members to resolve mechanical concerns effectively
- Repair or replace faulty equipment, components, or structures as required
- Perform scheduled oil changes on engines and generators according to the oil change tracking system
- Monitor mechanical supply levels and communicate needs to the Purchasing Supervisor or Parts Department
- Ensure guests on the lake receive prompt service and enjoy a safe, trouble-free experience on their houseboat
- Maintain service boat(s), ensuring they are equipped with necessary tools, parts, and safety gear
- Diagnose and complete repairs based on guest-reported concerns
- Carry out mechanical repairs on rental boats both in dry dock and on the water
- Address and complete mechanical tasks listed on the "To-Do" maintenance list
- Perform seasonal maintenance including winterizing and spring commissioning of boats
- Provide professional and courteous customer service during guest interactions
Team Support and Other Duties:
- Collaborate with team members: Support colleagues with dock operations, vessel handling, and other responsibilities, particularly during peak times
- Operate support vessels: Assist with docking, mooring, and guest service by operating pickup boats or retrieving houseboats as needed
- Support general operations: Adapt to changing demands and provide assistance across Twin Anchors operations to ensure smooth and efficient marina functionality
Required Skills and Knowledge:
- Minimum one year of experience in mechanical or related field
- Certified mechanical abilities or equivalent hands-on experience
- Proficient in operating tools and equipment related to mechanical, construction, electrical, and plumbing work
- WHMIS certification (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System)
- Strong communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with guests, team members, and supervisors
- Physical stamina and strength to perform demanding tasks such as lifting, standing for extended periods, and working in various weather conditions
- Customer service experience or training with a focus on delivering a positive and memorable guest experience
- Valid Pleasure Craft Operator Card to legally operate boats on the lake and within marina operations
- Boat operation experience including handling, routine maintenance, and basic repairs
- Demonstrated problem-solving abilities in fast-paced, hands-on environments
Preferred Knowledge/Experience:
- Certification(s) or proven abilities in mechanical, electrical, plumbing and construction
- Tourism or hospitality experience: Previous work in the tourism or related industries is an asset, especially in boat rentals or marina operations.
- Knowledge of houseboats or similar vessels: Familiarity with Twin Anchors fleet or similar houseboat models is preferred.
- Experience with Mercury engines and drives (inboard/outboard)
- Experience with Westerbeke Generators
- Knowledge of Shuswap Lake
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift, bend, and move heavy equipment and vessels.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including high summer temperatures.
- Ability to stand, walk, and bend for extended periods during shifts.
** Must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with customers and staff in a professional, friendly and respectful manner.**
Working Conditions:
- Employment Type: Full-time Seasonal
- Work Schedule: Winter Schedule (Nov-April); Monday- Friday. Based on experience for winter work available, Summer Sailing Schedule (May-Oct); Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.
- Compensation: Competitive hourly wage (to be determined based on experience).
