Key Responsibilities/Job Functions
This technical resource will assist the team with day-to-day investigation of network impairments
and other DOCSIS capacity related issues
The position reports to and supports management and assists with daily activities that include:
• Diagnosing congestion issues (service group overload, excessive upstream traffic)
• Identifying rogue or high-usage subscribers
• Differentiating RF issues from capacity-related slowdowns
• Investigating RF impairments on both HFC and Remote Phy Architectures
• Identifying DOCSIS Capacity related issues
• Working with other teams to resolve issues satisfactorily
• Provide reporting and summarization of issues found and steps taken to resolve
Job Qualifications
• DOCSIS Fundamentals
o Understanding of DOCSIS 3.0, 3.1, and 4.0 standards
o Channel bonding, modulation schemes (QAM, OFDM, OFDMA)
o DOCSIS MAC layer operations and scheduling
o QoS (Quality of Service) and Service Flows
• RF & HFC Network Knowledge
o RF signal propagation in HFC networks
o Upstream and downstream RF impairments (noise, ingress, micro-reflections,
group delay)
o Understanding of RF metrics
o HFC plant architecture (nodes, amplifiers, taps, splitters)
o Return path analysis and troubleshooting
• Network Performance & Telemetry Analysis
o Understanding of DOCSIS counters and telemetry (Pre-Equalization, FEC,
Ranging, Load)
o Tools like PNM (Proactive Network Maintenance) and CMTS telemetry
o Real-time monitoring tools (e.g., SNMP, Grafana, Splunk)
• Troubleshooting & Root Cause Analysis
o Diagnosing congestion issues (service group overload, excessive upstream
traffic)
o Identifying rogue or high-usage subscribers
o Differentiating RF issues from capacity-related slowdowns
