About the role:
This position reports to the Quality Supervisor and will be responsible for the site-wide consumer safety and quality systems which have been established via the HACCP process. The position will play a critical role in maintaining an effective Quality Program which includes developing, communicating, & execution of procedures/instructions. In addition, the Quality Supervisor facilitates the development of policies and systems which are aligned to Flora Food Groups Corporate policies and implements and upgrades these systems via a systematic continuous improvement approach. This role is also responsible for the direction and supervision of the Quality Assurance Lab Technicians.
Core Responsibilities:
- To ensure that Quality is built into every process from the early stages of Innovation all the way through launch, and they are systematically reviewed and maintained
- To develop and maintain Quality Systems for the site, in compliance with Flora Food Canada Policies/Guidelines and Governmental regulatory requirements
- To provide technical information/advise/feedback, to Customers and other departments, on product inquiries or complaints, process troubleshooting and Flora Food Group policies and guidelines
- Protect the company products through effective testing and sampling programs
- Ensure that all products meet or surpass defined standards of quality by developing, implementing and monitoring an effective Quality Program to the HACCP standard and Flora Food Canadas framework
- Effectively lead a team by facilitating employee development, advancing performance standards and fostering productive Employee Relations
- Support development, communication and achievement of Department & Plant objectives / goals
- Be a partner between Quality, Production, and Sanitation Teams; by validating and auditing production and cleaning procedures and regularly verify activities to ensure program standards and requirements are met and records are maintained
- Assist in root cause analysis and complex problem solving in the case of any Quality incident to assess or prevent further risk or a re-occurrence
- Train, orient, supervise, coach, and evaluate current and new staff in SOPs, GMPs, chemical use, sanitary procedures, food safety requirements and other company policies and procedures. Training of QA personnel in methodologies for testing and QM
- Identify areas of improvement based on self-inspection and audit findings; follow up to ensure gaps are addressed; adapt procedural changes to eliminate recurrence
- Ability to define performance measures related to quality and food safety.
- Support internal and external audit performed by regulatory bodies, certification entities and customers.
- Oversight of the allergen management program, including validation
- Participate in the development and execution of actions to prevent or correct FM or micro hazards to food safety and quality.
- Support the update of VACCP and TACCP analysis. Verify compliance of claims.
- Identify food safety hazards/risks in equipment or process design for any new category or produce and support the implementation and maintenance of food safety standards of such
- Own and manage Right First Time, the applicable KPI's and lead improvement action plans
- Lead MOC changes pertaining to quality and food safety. Review change proposals by other SU departments to ensure compliance with QA and FS requirements
- Lead trend analysis and any investigations in support of food safety, including implementation of improvement actions
- Support the maintenance of all department related documentation.
Minimum Requirements:
- 3-5 years of experience in food manufacturing with strong exposure to Quality and Consumer Food Safety Management Systems.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Food Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or Microbiology or equivalent work experience
- Knowledge and experience with HACCP, GMP and Quality regulations.
- Experience in a Lab environment is an asset
- Strong attention to detail, systems and presentation skills. Preferably with SAP and other ERP
- Having experience in fats and oils, food manufacturing is an asset.
- Advanced MS suites experience required.
- Leadership and conflict management.
