OVERVIEW: Reporting to the Memengwaa Supervisor, the Building Caretaker/Maintenance Worker will be responsible for general cleaning/maintenance of the buildings and the grounds.

KEY RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Conduct regular walk throughs of the property and observe any maintenance related concerns.
  • Complete basic maintenance and repairs such as minor repairs (drywall, paint, hanging items), changing locks/codes, repairing, and addressing safety concerns.
  • Complete building cleaning such as cleaning floors, outdoor landscaping/cleanup, general cleanup.
  • Ensure fire safety equipment such as smoke alarms and fire extinguishers inspected and tested regularly.
  • Clean suits when a tenant moves out; ensure suit is prepared for new tenant.
  • Submit maintenance requests for large scale repairs or maintenance issues.
  • Participate in condition report walk throughs with new/existing tenants.
  • Closely with tenant services coordinator as it relates to oversight of tenants.
  • Work with the tenant services coordinator, supervisors, and other staff to address tenancy issues.
  • Collaborate with the SAI maintenance department when required.
  • assist with basic maintenance of other Memengwaa Housing properties in the North End of Winnipeg.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Training/education in trades a definite asset, work and volunteer experience will be considered.
  • Experience using hand tools, power tools, cleaning supplies in a safe manner.
  • Knowledge of building systems such as fire prevention heating/cooling, etc. an asset.
  • Ability to complete physically demanding tasks including lifting and walking up stairs.
  • Ability to work independently; able to prioritize tasks.
  • Lived experience with CFS a definite asset; former youth in care will be prioritized.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and/or understanding of Indigenous perspectives, First Nations culture and traditional philosophies.
  • Valid class 5 Drivers License and a reliable vehicle is considered an asset.
  • Must have a current satisfactory Child Abuse Registry Check, Adult Abuse Registry Check, Criminal Record check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), and Prior Contact Check as conditions of employment.
