This summer student opportunity is with our Good Shepherd - SAM Program East, 1831 King Street East, Hamilton

How You Will Make an Impact

Join our dynamic team this summer and contribute to the Good Shepherd SAM Program is an Adult Day Service Program offering recreational, social and physical activities to seniors and adults with diminished abilities. Duties include:

  • Assisting with preparation for social/recreational and other client support activities alongside program staff including set up and clean up;
  • One to one support for social/recreational activities to assist clients to participate;
  • Assisting staff to prepare and serve nourishments to program clients and assisting with clean up after
  • Regular cleaning and disinfection of program areas, washrooms and equipment at the start and end of each day
  • Assisting with program attendance tracking.
  • Ensuring program areas are clean, tidy and secure at the end of the day.

What You'll Bring to Our Team

  • Demonstrated interest/experience in working with frail seniors and persons with disabilities
  • Information technology knowledge and experience to assist with troubleshooting basic IT -related problems, including IPad, tablets, computers and mobile phones
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and actively within the team

Hiring Criteria - the following criteria is established by Canada Summer Job:

This temporary full-time position is funded by Service Canada for youth between the ages of 15 to 30 years of age.

  • Applicants may be more than 30 years of age at the end of the employment period as long as they were 30 at the beginning of the employment period.
  • As per the Summer Canada Jobs Program criteria:
    • International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada.
    • Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, youth visa or work visa are ineligible.
