Summary

Reporting to the Superintendent, the Site Foreman is accountable for managing crews for field operations from initial project planning to completion for high density 6 story wood frame rental buildings. This person is responsible for assisting with site management of the project and all project activities, including the supervision of self-performed and subcontracted construction work, and focuses on managing the execution of the work by utilizing and leveraging the team's experience. This includes ensuring that the project is built on time, within budget, and according to company policies and procedures. The Assistant Site Superintendent / Foreman assists the Superintendent in managing, directing, and mentoring all direct reports and field personnel, and possesses comprehensive knowledge of the project management lifecycle. The Foreman plays a strategic role in the constructability of the project through their continuous and active review of all project documentation, activities, progress, etc.; seeking out potential for risk and opportunity and implementing the required measures to correctly address and resolve issues.

Responsibilities

  • Work with site superintendent and project manager, to implement the project safety program
  • Under the direction of the Superintendent, check quality of work and make adjustments as required.
  • Effectively communicate with own forces and subtrades and ensure that performance, productivity, quality, and safety requirements are met.
  • Monitor contractors, trades performance, progress and productivity.
  • Advise site superintendent or project manager of potential problems, work interferences, schedule difficulties, etc.
  • Monitor and assist the Superintendent in the execution the project construction plan and schedule.
  • Mentorship of junior carpenters/laborers
  • Assist the Superintendent in providing leadership and direction for all project activities and tasks, ensuring project outcomes are delivered successfully and in compliance with all contracts and client needs.
  • Assist the Superintendent to conduct and/or oversee weekly safety meetings, weekly site inspections and safety orientations for all new employees on site.
  • Assist the Superintendent to monitor productivities throughout the project life cycle for potential opportunities and losses.
  • Under the direction of the Superintendent, assist with project closeout requirements: final inspections, deficiencies, and warranty work.
  • Assist the Superintendent with completion of required documentation, including: safety documentation, timesheets, invoice verification for approval, labour quantities, material receiving, purchase orders, and site photos.
  • Assist the Superintendent in planning, organizing and managing all site construction manpower and materials, including site layout and setup.
  • Assist the Superintendent to identify and generate requests for information.
  • Performance management / quality control of subtrades through regular observation and inspection
  • Review contract specifications and blueprints to ensure construction compliance with drawings, building code and requirements.
  • Assist the superintendent in the coordination and planning of daily work activities.
  • Additional tasks as needed by the Superintendent.

Requirements

  • Journeyman Trade Certification is preferred.
  • 3+ years of progressive field supervisor experience required. Depending upon the project size, scope, and complexity the years of experience may vary.
  • Strong Health & Safety background
  • Experience on sites with several subcontractors is an asset
  • Experience with online HSE platforms is an asset
  • Zoom boom and/or skid steer ticket / experience for material handling and deliveries is an asset.
  • Knowledge of construction industry and company operations, including building materials, construction specifications, and methods and procedures.
  • Understanding of project schedules and ability to identify the critical path.
  • Knowledge of safety and environmental principles/procedures/legislation.
  • Ability to lead and run effective site meetings with client, consultants, trades, own forces work, and internal employees.
  • Demonstrated conflict-resolution skills, problem-solving abilities, and professional judgment.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite, scheduling platforms and CAD software is an asset.
