Community Nurse (LPN) – casual and part-time opportunities

ʔakisq̓nuk First Nation (″ʔAFN″) is looking for casual and part-time Community Nurses to join our team. Reporting to the Clinical Lead, this position is responsible for delivering disease prevention and health promotion support and activities to the community, both through individual and group clinics. The primary responsibility is to implement community-based services and provide clients with appropriate resources and care in accordance with established standards of healthcare.

ʔakisq̓nuk First Nation is a member Community of the Ktunaxa Nation. With a total membership of approximately 370, the Nation is located just 10km south of Invermere, BC and is home to approximately 100. ʔAFN exists for the Community. Externally, we are here to serve the Community, and internally, we are our own Community, comprised of different departments unified by our Vision, Mission, and Values. As a team, through our own roles and departments, the ʔAFN Organization works together to achieve our strategic plan “Our Thinking” and continue to progress and move our community forward.

Note: These positions are flexible, offering casual and part-time opportunities depending on the needs of the incumbents.

The primary responsibilities include:

  • Apply and utilize key nursing knowledge and critical thinking to plan and implement interventions to address health issues, taking into account relevant evidence, legislation and regulations, and policies.
  • Collect, assess, analyze, and apply information from various data sources to make evidence-informed decisions
  • Interpret information for professional and community audiences.
  • Facilitate disease prevention education activities through a variety of teaching methods (support groups, presentations, organized events).
  • Liaise with interdisciplinary health care members within the community
  • Provide health care services through planned home visits, clinics, and education workshops
  • Provide referrals to other services as required.
  • Provide after care services when required for post-hospital discharge, surgeries, or procedures.
  • Work with Public Health
  • Advocate for public policy and services that promote and protect the health and well-being of individuals, families, groups, and communities.
  • Involve individuals, families, groups, and communities as active partners to take action to address health inequities and foster a self-management care approach for chronic conditions.
  • Coordinate and participate in case management process and developments for plans of care.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Current practicing license with the College of Registered Nurses of BC
  • Communicable Disease Control Certificate is an asset
  • Experience working with First Nations / Indigenous communities is an asset
  • Knowledge of language, history and culture of the ʔakisqnuk band is an asset
  • Ability to act efficiently and effectively in crisis situation
  • Strong communication skills, both written, verbal, and listening
  • Excellent attention to detail when reviewing health details and creating reports
  • Strong customer services skills when working with community members
  • NOTE: A criminal check and vulnerable sector search will be conducted on the successful applicant

  • Competitive pay ($31.89 – $45.05 per hour depending on experience)
