Supervisor Tailings Engineering

Position Description:

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Supervisor Tailings Engineering with a focus on dam management will spearhead various geotechnical and mine waste management projects, ensuring meticulous oversight from field investigations to construction and dam safety inspections, alongside in-depth involvement in related analyses like hydrotechnical and hydrogeological. This role is pivotal in directing and reviewing geotechnical analyses, particularly emphasizing soil mechanics, managing quality control, and mitigating risks throughout the design, construction and operating phases. The position will play a vital role in developing and realizing the mining business plan.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with all TMF design requirements, and applicable safety and environmental regulations, company policies and standards.
  • Manage the operation, maintenance, and surveillance of the Tailings Management Facility (TMF),
  • Oversee day to day operational and maintenance issues associated with the construction of the TMF, in conjunction with other departments as required,
  • Liaise with the Engineer of Record on monitoring data, quality data and production plans,
  • Act as the TMF Responsible Tailings Facility Engineer as defined in the GISTM, MAC
  • Oversee supervision of the operations team associated with the management of the TMF,
  • Integral role in implementing the Water Management Plan associated with the mill and TMF
  • Oversee all TMF construction activities, including construction of dam raises.
  • Provide direction, in consultation with the Mine Operations department, for the mine operations rockfill placement and coordination with the Process Plant department to execute tailings pipeline construction extension and relocation to newly built lifts.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelors degree in Civil, Mining, Geological Engineering or related engineering field from an accredited University is required.
  • A minimum of eight (8) years experience, including significant time spent managing tailings storage facilities.
  • P. Eng designation or ability to register with PEO as a Professional Engineer,
  • Previous management experience in a technical environment with proven leadership abilities.
  • Must have current working knowledge of all applicable regulations: Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM), ICMM, MAC, CDA, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and work within a team and achieve results
