Operations Supervisor Night Shift

Summary of Position:

Supervise hourly production employees in a safe, productive, and efficient manner.


Essential Functions, Duties, and Tasks:

  • Organize the daily work requirements for the yard crews based on the planned work lists
  • Supervise hourly workforce in accordance with current collective agreement and all applicable provincial employment, safety, health and human rights regulations
  • Investigate all incidents and accidents that occur within the yard by collecting all necessary details and other evidence; input the information into the computer database system and submit to Regional Quality and Safety Manager for further processing
  • Oversee all special vehicle moves, diversions, repairs and maintain ongoing communication with GM plant personnel
  • Organize large campaigns for plant returns, special yard moves, record the same and complete all necessary paperwork
  • Work with the Dispatchers to ensure vehicles are properly loaded and ready for their assigned destinations
  • Maintain ongoing contact with plant operations during special campaigns and holds
  • Conduct daily vehicle inventory counts and report this information to the Dispatcher
  • Actively participate in daily quality and safety initiatives
  • Conduct workplace safety and quality audits and maintain information and post as required
  • Understand all provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, AWC Corporate Safety Policies

and Procedures and apply provisions accordingly

  • Do everything reasonable to protected employees from workplace injury or illness.
    • Inform employees of hazards and dangers and respond to their concerns.
    • Show employees how to work safely and make sure they follow the law, and workplace health and safety policies and procedures
    • Make sure employees wear and use the right PPE
  • React to change effectively and handle other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Exhibit a behaviour and conduct that maintains a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner so that the incumbent gets along with customers, vendors, co-workers, and management
  • Demonstrate the ability to work in a variety of situations
  • Strong interpersonal skills; able to deal with people tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally always
  • Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills
  • Ability to work to deadlines
  • Mechanical ability
  • Understand AAR rules and procedures
  • Understand Customer Product requirements

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed indoors in an office setting and outside with exposure to all types of weather conditions year-round
  • Walking, sitting, standing, climbing, lifting and carrying

Education, Experience, and Minimum Requirements:

  • Post secondary education in relevant field
  • Minimum 2 - 3 years supervisory experience. Experience in a unionized environment is an asset.
  • Minimum one year driving experience
  • Valid full G drivers' license with an acceptable driving record
  • Intermediate level of proficiency with MS Word, Excel and e-mail required
  • Experience learning and adapting to new computer systems and software programs
  • Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS 2015) certification
  • Supervisor Health and Safety Awareness in 5 Steps certificate
  • First Aid Training, is an asset
  • Subject to a Criminal Record Background Check
