Halyard Inc. is a highly skilled multidisciplinary engineering company delivering services including technical studies, engineering design, procurement, cost control, program management, project implementation, and commissioning predominately in the mining sector.

Job Summary:

We are expanding our services to include geological and mine engineering for the full lifecycle of projects in the mining and minerals utilities sector.

The VP, Technical Services, a senior management role, is based in the Toronto, Canada office and reports to the President. This strategic role is responsible for the management and leadership of junior staff members, as well as generating and maintaining strategic business direction and opportunities.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Services Leadership:

  • Provides technical services oversight, effectively manages service delivery and escalations, including establishing and improving service delivery processes, standards and quality.
  • Leads geological consulting projects, including techno-economic studies (SS/PFS/DFS), due diligence, evaluations of exploration and resource projects, peer reviews, optimization studies, and other projects as required.
  • Manages project budgets, client liaison and expectations, working alongside an international team of experts.
  • Works within the management team to consider major decisions and strategies pertaining to business development, business strategies, efficiencies, breadth of services and corporate culture. Actively assesses, and pro-actively addresses, business risks that may arise from clients, project status/conditions, technical aspects, market environmental conditions, labour force, project pipelines and resourcing.
  • Represents the Canadian team to contribute to major decisions and strategies pertaining to business development, business strategies, efficiencies, breadth of services and corporate culture.
  • Acts as a liaison between Halyard, Micon UK and Micon Canada.
  • Oversees staffing decisions to support Canadian services.
  • Promotes communication and cooperation among departments to create a culture of unity in the organization.
  • Delivers regular communications to staff, including but not limited to:
    • Status updates about services and performance
    • Decisions relating to services strategy, policies and company culture.

Business Development:

  • Plays a leading role in business development strategy and generates new leads and business to grow the business financially and geographically.
  • Develops service offerings and compiles sales presentations and proposals.
  • Reviews contracts and procurement.
  • Maintains relationships with current clients, generates new business with existing clients.
  • Identifies new strategic clients, markets and commodities.
  • Attends conferences and other events to promote, network and market Halyard services and explore new business opportunities.


REQUIREMENTS

Experience & Education:

  • Extensive professional experience (8+ years) in leadership roles, specifically in the mineral mining and processing industry.
  • Deep knowledge and expertise as a Geologist, applicable to a variety of mineral projects, related commodities, and project life cycles from a services perspective.
  • At least 5 years of experience in Mineral Exploration is required, which must include Lithium and rare earths/battery metals.
  • A master's degree in geology is required with further qualifications in engineering, business administration and / or finance being an asset.
  • Professional accreditation, such as P.Geo or equivalent and experienced as a Qualified Person (QP)/Competent Person (CP) under N143-101/JORC/PERC etc. OR eligibility and drive to actively pursue becoming professionally accredited with the most suitable organisation and maintain registration as a professional geologist, or equivalent QP or CP. Skills & Competencies:

  • Excellent managerial and financial skills and the ability to take leadership over professional services team, including:
    • Superlative communication skills, particularly the ability to communicate as a leader and a mentor.
    • Thorough understanding of business management and financial practices in all areas and phases of business operations.
  • Excellent oral and written English skills, including the ability to create detailed business documentation and deliver presentations to employees and clients in English.
