POSITION STATUS: Temporary Full-Time

RATE OF PAY: $18.20 per hour

SHIFT WORK REQUIRED: Tuesday to Saturday, 9 AM to 5 PM

WORK DURATION: Tuesday, June 11, 2024 to Saturday, August 31, 2024

WORK LOCATION: Museum Windsor 254 Pitt St. W. Windsor Ontario

DUTIES:

As part of a multi-year ongoing project, the student will research paper, microfilmed and digital copies of local newspapers from the 1830s through the 1950s to track references to Indigenous life in this area. The student will make digital copies of newspaper articles and any advertising that deal with Indigenous life and activities, and will catalogue these in the museum database. The purpose of this research is to broaden the resources on Indigenous life in the Windsor-Essex area. The results of this research will be made available to the public in the museum's reference library, and will be used in future programming and exhibitions. In order to broaden the museum experience available to the student, this position also involves an introduction to other facets of museum work, such as programming in a historic house.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • University or College student (preferably a major in history, anthropology, tourism, museum studies, Indigenous studies, Journalism or related field);
  • Attention to detail of paramount importance; must be well-organized
  • Must be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada (non-Canadians holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent resident status are not eligible);
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada (have a valid social insurance number);
  • Must be between 16 and 30 years of age inclusively at the start of employment;
  • Must be a high school, college, CEGEP or university student.
