A day in the role of a Food Services Supervisor at Eatonville Care Centre.

As a Food Services Supervisor (FSS) at Eatonville Care Centre, you will be given high expectations, as well as an expectation to continue personal growth and professional growth.

The FSS provides leadership in all aspects of the dietary operation within established legislative standards and professional standards. They effectively manage human, material, and fiscal resources. The FSS also monitors the quality of care and services delivered to clients through effective quality improvement activities.

As a Food Services Supervisor, you will report to the Food Service Manager.

This position is responsible for but not limited to:

  • Conducts departmental meeting and in services training in the department
  • Participates in town hall meetings
  • Receives verbal/written endorsement regarding changes in resident status
  • Ensures open communication between staff and other team members
  • Encourages participation in the Home's committees/teams
  • Assists in the facilitation in the Home's Resident Food Committee in collaboration with the Food Service Manager
  • Reports observations to Dietician or Food Services Manager relating to resident care and others (food preferences, likes & dislikes, intake)
  • Completes RAI/MDS/Care Plan and quarterlies to low and moderate risk residents
  • Attends annual care reviews or special care reviews in the absence of the Food Service Manager
  • Mentors new staff and students
  • Supports and promotes a team approach
  • Ongoing delivery of customer service with staff, residents, families, and the general public
  • Ensures optimal quality of life for each resident by providing well balanced meals
  • Reports faulty equipment and ensure lock/tag out is practiced
  • Understands and ensures compliance with all Public Health and Ministry of Health and Long- Term Care standards and regulations.
  • Required to understand the nature and meaning of the quality indicators used by the Home and to understand which indicators are publicly reported.
  • Required to participate in the improvement of the indicators and achieve satisfactory results.
  • Utilizes equipment and supplies within budgetary constraints
  • Completes invoices and variance reporting in the absence of the Food Service Manager
  • Makes orders and maintains menu in the absence of the Food Service Manager
  • Monitors supplement cost in collaboration with the Food Service Manager
  • Other duties as assigned and or as indicated in Job Task Inventory

Qualifications

  • Active member of the Canadian Society of Nutrition & Management (CSNM) or a registered dietitian
  • Comprehensive knowledge of long-term care concepts and philosophies
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Previous managerial experience in a long-term care setting is an asset
  • Policy and program development
  • Good judgment & decision making, solving problems & resolving conflicts skills
  • Preferably a minimum of 2 years of experience
  • Knowledgeable of the Ministry of Long-Term Care and Public Health's rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledgeable about Hazard Analysis Critical Control Procedures (HACCP)
  • Must have a clear vulnerable sector screen, no older than 6 months, TB test results less than 6 months old, and must be able to provide three supervisory references.
