MEALS ON WHEELS – SUMMER STUDENT

Temporary Contract: 9 weeksEstimated Start Date: June 24, 2024
30 hours per week, $17.00 per hour + mileage when delivering Meals on Wheels

(Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 2:30 pm)

The Meals on Wheels – Summer Student provides logistical support and direct client service to seniors and people with diverse abilities through the agency's Meals on Wheels program. They assist in the preparation of packaging materials, organizing routes, disbursing meals, and delivering meals directly to clients.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Work as part of a team with kitchen staff, Meals on Wheels staff and volunteers to assemble, organize and pack hot meals, ensuring all necessary items are included
  • Clean and/or put away Meals on Wheels carrier bags as they return to the office from deliveries
  • Prepare meal bags for next day
  • Assist Manager, Meal Services with daily tasks in organizing meal delivery
  • Data entry as assigned by Manager
  • Deliver Meals on Wheels route when needed

Requested Skills/Qualifications

  • This job is funded through Canada Summer Jobs 2024, and to be eligible applicants must:
    • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period
    • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
    • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with Ontario legislation and regulations
  • Valid Driver's License and daily access to a safe, licensed and reliable vehicle to deliver meals
  • Satisfactory police records check for the vulnerable sector
  • Excellent multi-tasking and organizational skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Experience with older adults, volunteers and/or persons with diverse abilities is an asset
  • Ability to communicate in language other than English an asset
