Additionally, Fox Group Canada is significantly expanding its business portfolio in Canada, and the role of the Sr. Controller is pivotal in leading the future of HR within the company.

We are looking for an experienced Sr. Controller to join our Head office team! This position is responsible to oversee the activities of the financial, bookkeeping, and payroll functions and associates to ensure proper execution of the function and the implementation of appropriate financial controls to ensure compliance with accepted accounting processes and legal requirements.

This position is based in the Canada Head Office (Toronto) and reports directly to the CEO of Retailors Canada with a dotted line to the CFO for Retailors (Amsterdam)

Here's some of the key responsibilities and expectations for this role:

  • Preparing Monthly/Quarterly/Annually management group reporting for Senior Executives and Board Managers
  • Preparing quarterly reporting package including consolidation of two entities as well as cash flow
  • Prepares cash projections for two entities.
  • Review the rental bills from the landlord for accuracy, review year end CAM and Tax reconciliation
  • Review monthly close including cash, inventory, credit cards, HST remittance, rents, accruals
  • Development and implementation of appropriate International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) accounting policies and procedures
  • Coordination, reviewing of all tax returns with our external accountants
  • Transfer Pricing policies and strategies
  • Developing and implementing appropriate control policies and procedures
  • Managing the Finance department along with the Payroll Department, consists of 3 employees, and a Business Planner
  • Monitors and confirms Financial condition by conducting audits and providing information to external auditors
  • Maximizes return and limits risk on cash by minimizing bank balances and making investments
  • Prepares budgets by establishing schedules; collecting, analyzing, and consolidating financial data; recommending plans.
  • Achieves budget objectives by scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.
  • Provides status of financial condition by collecting, interpreting, and reporting financial data.
  • Complies with Federal, Provincial, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, anticipating future legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, filing financial reports, and advising management on needed actions.
  • Maintains financial staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees.
  • Supporting other initiatives as needed, such as M&A, Tax structures, etc.

Here's the skills, experience and knowledge we're looking for:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) in Finance or Accounting.
  • CPA certification is also desirable for the position.
  • At least 5 years of working experience in a Control position, fast-paced environment
  • Retail experience is preferred
  • Ability to managing, develop and implement processes
  • Financial software - Netsuite
  • Proven track record in building high-performing and highly engaged teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to inspire and influence multiple stakeholders
  • Strong business and financial acumen
  • Ability to analyze information and identify gaps
  • Performance management
