The Manager, Health & Safety, is responsible for managing all aspects of the agency's health and safety portfolio, including building a strong culture of health and safety and regulatory compliance within CMHA TVAMHS. The role will work collaboratively with leadership, JHSC, and staff. This includes ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and regulatory requirements.

WHAT WE'RE OFFERING:

  • When you'll work - 70 hours over two-week period; Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:30pm

HOW YOU WILL BE MAKING A DIFFERENCE:

Strategic Responsibilities:

  • Implements successful health and safety programs and influences sensitive health and safety situations and relationships with key stakeholders
  • Establish objectives for Health and Safety by defining and implementing one-year strategies
  • Develop and implement new health and safety strategies, practices, procedures, policies and standards for the agency to ensure legislative compliance, injury prevention and effective risk mitigation and cost containment
  • Identifies root causes/contributing factors in order to resolve issues related to Health & Safety
  • Promotes a strong culture of health and safety, including psychological safety in the workplace
  • Learn to grow and build a culture of continuous improvement and creativity aimed at innovation and system change
  • Collaborate with internal peers and influence program decisions regarding health and safety
  • Develop and deliver timely communication within the department, program and internal stakeholders
  • Provide health and safety support and insight into health and safety issues
  • Be a trusted advisor/business partner with internal stakeholders in health and safety matters
  • Acts as organization's subject matter expert and provides guidance to leadership and JHSC

Operational Responsibilities:

  • Oversee, monitor and implement the organization's health and safety policy; to ensure the department is compliant with health and safety legislation, accreditation standards; and to reduce or prevent hazards, dangers and injuries
  • Oversees the functioning of the organization's JHSC structure and supports the mandate of the committees
  • Liaisons with external counsel, government regulators, including the Ministry of Labour and other regulators
  • Provides first level response to unexpected/urgent health and safety issues by applying judgement, analytical and decision-making skills to determine appropriate course of action
  • Conduct health and safety assessments and investigations to define and analyze possible risks and controls
  • Design processes to eliminate or mitigate potential health and safety risks
  • Audit processes and procedures relative to health and safety
  • Report on established health and safety performance indicators
  • Updates and maintains, health and safety training materials for employees on an annual basis and ensure the stakeholders has the updated training materials
  • Works with Human Resources team to update, maintain, and provide health and safety orientation materials
  • Monitors, manages and distributes appropriate equipment, PPE and material resources
  • Monitors health and safety budgets by authorizing within assigned limits
  • May supervise staff including overseeing performance management, attendance management, disciplinary matters, allocation of work/duties and escalated human resource matters
  • Provides first level response to unexpected/urgent issues by applying judgement, analytical and decision-making skills to determine appropriate course of action
  • Monitor and respond to inquiries and to ensure timely communication with all stakeholders as well as facilitating resolution of complex and sensitive situations or precedent setting to satisfy a health and safety need

WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO APPLY:

Police Vulnerable Sector Check Requirements

Successful candidates must have a Police Vulnerable Sector Check completed in the last six months. Interested applicants who reside in the City of London and are in need of a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) are encouraged to apply for one as soon as possible as PVSCs in the City of London are currently taking approximately 2 weeks to be processed and offers of employment cannot be made without receipt of a PVSC.

We require the following qualifications:

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in the field of health and safety (Primary proof of credentials will be required during the hiring process, i.e. an original degree/diploma or official transcript)
  • Clear, current Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC)
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work regularly

We prefer the following qualifications:

  • Minimum of three years of direct experience as a Health and Safety Manager within a minimum of five years of overall health and safety experience
  • CRSP, CHSC designation
  • Strong working knowledge of all relevant legislation including but not limited to WSIA, OHSA, ESA, CSA, AODA, Human Rights, TSSA, MOE, Technical Trades, Building and Fire Code
  • Extensive working knowledge of MS Office Professional and strong computer skills
  • Parklane and Smartsheet knowledge/experience is an asset
  • Proven ability to work with committees and leadership to obtain solutions in team settings
  • Proven ability to develop / write policies and procedures
  • Ability to work outside of business hours on an infrequent basis
  • Valid drivers licence and vehicle insurance, access to a vehicle adequate for carrying out requirements of the role
