Position Summary

Reporting to the Director, Technical Product Management, the Advanced Prototyping Lead is responsible for supervising the Advanced Prototyping (“AP”) team, providing technical oversight of tests, and managing the prototyping machine shop.

The AP team is responsible for prototype part creation, informing part design and manufacturability which in turn de-risks future products. The team philosophy is based on fast-failure learnings using prototype hardware. This team calls for maximum creativity and will more often be defining tests than following an established test standard. Note that these are early-stage tests in order to tease out technical risk and increase Technology Readiness Level (“TRL”) of the products.

  • Provide feedback on findings to project team and designers
  • Areas of focus include equipment manufacturability, electrical performance, battery charge/discharge performance, heat rejection, thermal management, plumbing systems, vibration and destructive testing.
