Primary purpose of position:

Reporting to the Director of Asset Development, this position is responsible for technical support in a multi-disciplinary setting for Asset Evaluation activities. The focus will be on evaluating existing asset exploration and development potential, value, and supporting future asset exploration and appraisal plan. Under the guidance of the Director of Asset Development, this position provides expertise in the geological assessment and evaluation of assets to identify new business, existing asset technical and economic evaluation support, and divestiture opportunities.

As a Senior Geologist, you will work in a high functioning, multi-disciplinary team that focuses on maintaining and maximizing the value of a broad array of the company's assets.

Responsibilities:

  • Engage in asset exploration evaluation. Provide exploration target geological and reservoir characteristics, detailed exploration potential analysis, exploration, appraisal well proposals.
  • Non-core asset technical evaluation. As per asset divestiture strategy, work with Business Development Department, focus on asset exploration and development analysis, evaluate reserves, resources, and asset preliminary value.
  • Support NMJV( Sinopec as non-operator) subsurface technical support, including recent years new producer result comparison and analysis, technical and economic lookback, making recommendations to improve well performance and reduce Capex, and so on.
  • Support asset special technical evaluation and research, such as supporting some asset or long time shut in well reactivation activities.
  • Identify opportunities and/or support commercial groups for further land acquisitions and/or consolidations.
  • Collaboratively integrate geological and reservoir engineering into multidisciplinary geologic models.
  • Support and contribute to annual reserves and resources evaluation process, audits and assessments.
  • Support AWPB and LTP for exploration projects.
  • Support asset retirement obligation (ARO) evaluation and yearly, long term plan. Work closely with land to evaluate and make recommendation on expiries.
  • Conduct in-depth geological evaluations and mapping of key project areas through the analysis and integration of multiple data types (i.e. core data, drilling samples, and logs) with knowledge and expertise of depositional environments, facies, and stratigraphy.
  • Work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team with reservoir engineers, petrophysicists, and geophysicists to create and evaluate integrated reservoir models.
  • Evaluate and make recommendations with respect to non-operated notices/poolings.
  • Provide proactive geological support for Exploitation, Mineral Land and Acquisitions as required.
  • Maintain the overall location inventory for play exploration or appraisal consistent with annual budgets. Mature budget locations for timely cost-effective execution.
  • Prepare and present recommendations through formal review to senior management.
  • Other temporary geological or reservoir engineering workloads.

Position knowledge, skills and experience:

  • Strong understanding of the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin plays (conventional/ unconventional).
  • A thorough and innovative geoscientist that considers all data and takes pride in a comprehensive interpretation along with the desire to share those results with others.
  • Experience in petrophysical analysis, reservoir mapping, core logging, sequence stratigraphy and depositional environment interpretations.
  • A good knowledge of seismic principles and applications.
  • Experience working with software such as: Geographix, Petrel, Accumap, StarSteer, Tableau, and Microsoft Office products; Willingness to learn and utilize new software.
  • Excellent communicator across multiple disciplines and with all management levels; able to prepare and present highly organized presentations that are concise and illustrate clarity of thought and confidence.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and operate effectively in a diverse and multi-cultural environment.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently; build and execute a work plan.

Minimum required education:

  • Bachelor of Science in Geology from an accredited institution.

Minimum required years of experience:

  • Minimum ten (10) years of progressive Geology experience in the Oil & Gas Industry.

Required professional designation(s):

  • A Professional Geologist designation accredited with APEGA.
