Reporting to the Manager, Operational Risk Management, the Senior Risk Analyst will primarily support the delivery of the Company's Operational Risk Management (ORM) Programs, with portfolio focus will be on model risk, insurance risk, and investment risk portfolios. The analyst is a backup for the Manager of Operational Risk Management.

Collaborating with others in the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) team, Procurement, and Business Units, the Risk Analyst will primarily support the fostering of strong partnership across the organization to strategically identify, assess and mitigate operational risks under the ORM Program and the enhancement of the Company's operational resilience.

What will you do?

  • Accountable for the development of risk models and conducting detailed risk analyses and assessments in support of risk management and risk assessment strategies.
  • Support the development and maintenance of data collection and reporting systems in collaboration with Business and Technology teams.
  • Develop and maintain a centralized repository and reporting system to document the governance and risk expectations related to Models, Non-Models, and Advanced Analytics (artificial intelligence) tools and solicit updates from business units on the requirements, mitigation plans, and in some cases, perform model validation, and produce program reporting quarterly.
  • Develop and maintain a model risk classification assessment and validation procedures.
  • Provide awareness and communicate model risk management standard practices within the company.
  • Support the development of an Insurance Risk Management Policy that sets out processes for providing oversight and direction on insurance risk exposures facing the Company.
  • Partner with business units to assess their controls over product design and pricing, and their monitoring of impacts of decision related to insurance, underwriting, claims, and reinsurance processes to ensure that they meet short and long-term strategies, best practices and comply with Company standards.
  • Support the development and maintenance of the investment and credit risk policies, practices and activities supporting various investment types, asset classes and approaches for the Company, in addition to assisting in the review of investment related agreements with third parties.
  • Collect Business Process Mapping of controls to validate adequate risk process and procedures are in place.
  • Establish, build, and maintain collaborative relationships with business partners, and promoting a risk-aware culture.

What will you need?

  • A certificate or diploma from a community college, preferably in finance, business, legal, or public policy
  • Undergraduate or Master's degree or equivalent in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Financial Engineering or another quantitative field preferred.
  • Good understanding of OSFI Guideline E-21 and E-23, regulatory expectations with regard to model risk management within financial institutions.
  • CIP preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in operational risk management
  • Experience in modelling risk management programs, insurance risk oversight and financial services.
  • Strong facilitation skills, business acumen, and influence as they take initiative on projects.
  • Adaptable to changes in the work environment.
  • Ability to interact with business contacts in a confident, courteous, and professional manner.
  • Attention to detail, capable of a high degree of mental concentration for extended periods of time.
  • Exceptional writing, editing and proofreading skills.
  • Familiarity with Onspring is considered an asset.
  • High proficiency in Excel, (including VBA or Office Scripts), data structuring, analytics, and visualization (Power BI, Python, SQL, Tableau, R), strong knowledge of SaaS and Artificial Intelligence software, methodologies, and controls.
