We build and operate fast, reliable fiber networks so rural Canada can thrive, and we are currently looking for a Design Coordinator to compliment our growing Design Team in achieving this.

Job Purpose:

Job Summary: As a heavy-duty mechanic in construction, you will be responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing heavy machinery and equipment used in construction sites. This includes but is not limited to bulldozers, excavators, cranes, loaders, trucks, and other specialized construction equipment. Your role is critical in ensuring equipment's safe and efficient operation on construction sites.

Responsibilities:

  • Equipment Inspections: Regularly inspect heavy machinery to identify and diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues.
  • Maintenance and Repairs: Perform routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, filter replacements, and lubrication. Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic problems to ensure equipment operates safely and efficiently.
  • Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot and identify complex technical problems in heavy equipment and develop effective solutions to minimize downtime.
  • Parts Management: Maintain an inventory of spare parts and equipment components. Order and replace parts as needed to ensure uninterrupted equipment operation.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines while working on equipment. Ensure all repairs and maintenance activities comply with safety standards and regulations.
  • Documentation: Keep detailed records of maintenance and repair activities, including parts replaced, repairs performed, and maintenance schedules.
  • Training and Support: Provide training and support to equipment operators and other personnel on proper equipment usage, maintenance, and safety procedures.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Mechanical Expertise: Strong mechanical aptitude and experience working with heavy machinery, diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems.
  • Diagnostic Skills: Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot complex technical issues in heavy equipment.
  • Safety Focus: Commitment to safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Attention to Detail: Thoroughness and attention to detail in inspections, maintenance, and repairs.
  • Communication: Good communication skills to interact with team members, equipment operators, and suppliers effectively.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to work in physically demanding environments and lift heavy equipment parts when necessary.
  • Certifications: Relevant certifications or trade qualifications as a heavy-duty mechanic or diesel mechanic are preferred.
  • Journeyman certificate, 5-10 years experience, Class 1 License, C VIP experience

Work Environment:

Heavy-duty mechanics in construction typically work in outdoor environments, often exposed to varying weather conditions. They may work on construction sites, workshops, or equipment yards. The job may involve occasional travel to different job sites or equipment suppliers for parts procurement.
