Job Summary and Qualifications

Areas of specialty:

The Direct Service Supervisor will provide leadership and supervision to a team of direct service workers with respect to case management and planning, along with their unit administrative assistant. They are responsible for service delivery, unit workload distribution, and implementation of all administrative, service and personnel policy and procedures. The Supervisor is responsible for staff being in compliance with federal and provincial child welfare legislation, regulations and standards; being responsible for ensuring the implementation of integrated service delivery from all clients receiving services from SCFS.

Qualifications:

  • BSW degree preferred, or post-secondary degree in Social Sciences acceptable. Other acceptable combinations of education and related experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of five (5) years' experience working directly in the child welfare profession.
  • Minimum of three (3) years direct Supervisory experience within Child Welfare.
  • Three years' experience working with youth and/or young adults.
  • Experience in crisis intervention, case management, and assessment of high-risk situations.
  • Proven ability in implementation of service programs and delivery.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written and organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical, assessment, problem solving and treatment planning skills.
  • Ability to navigate and knowledge of the Provincial CFS Data Base system
  • Valid class five driver's license, a reliable vehicle; and auto-loss of use
  • The ability to speak and/or understand the Ojibway language is considered a definite asset.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Ojibway culture and its communities is considered a definite asset.
  • Be familiar with and understand First Nation barriers/issues/culture
  • Computer skills using MS Outlook, Word, Excel and time and attendance programs

Duties & Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

  • Oversee and manages service delivery unit.
  • Review all cases daily as required to determine follow-up and ensure the appropriateness of agency involvement; ensures appropriate response to all allegations of abuse or neglect, where child(ren) may be at risk.
  • Supervises direct service workers ensuring all cases are managed in accordance with relevant legislation, regulations and standards including An Act Respecting First Nations, Metis and Inuit Children Youth and Families and The Child and Family Services CFS Act; attend to the specific needs of each case as required.
  • Ensuring completion and recording of initial and on-going assessments, child protection investigations and ongoing services, including service plans for all assigned cases
  • Completes day to day supervision of staff, ensuring completion of necessary written reports, recordings and documents for filing and statistical purposes.

Qualified candidates will be required to undergo a criminal record check, child abuse registry check, and a prior contact check as a condition of employment.
