Manager, Product Management and Facilities

Reporting to the Senior Director, Operations Support and Business Continuity, the Product Management & Facilities Manager is responsible for management of all nicotine/tobacco and cannabis/hemp containing products and devices, from product distribution to destruction, at the Labstat Kitchener facilities as well as facility team management. The product management team is the pivot for product and devices management. The Product Management team is responsible for distribution, preparation and destruction of product, determination of physical characteristics of nicotine containing products and management of inventory (including stability) during its life cycle at Labstat. The manager works closely with the chemistry and toxicology/microbiology testing teams, client experience, purchasing and the project management office for streamlined life cycle management of products. Leads continuous improvement projects for the department. The Manager will ensure a high level of client satisfaction, operational excellence, and a positive working environment for the team.

This role is also responsible for life cycle management of the Labstat facilities, including their maintenance, repair, cleaning, physical security, and utility infrastructure to ensure safe, efficient and continuous operation.

Primary responsibilities of the job:

  • Lead and manage the product management, general facilities, and instrumentation teams
  • Leads product management team responsible for management of nicotine/tobacco and cannabis/hemp containing products and devices from distribution until destruction
  • Responsible for management of general facilities and instrumentation team functions; reactive and preventative maintenance activities, facilities service contracts, security & fire protection equipment as well as systems
  • Helps liaising with landlords, local authorities such as City Planning, Hydro, Fire, and Police Departments on facility related issues
  • Direct the day-to-day activities of the laboratory staff and ensure all activities are performed in accordance and in compliance with Labstat's Code of Ethics, Quality System, and Health & Safety policies
  • Provide operational, technical, and administrative leadership through management, planning and allocation of resources in order to achieve the laboratory objectives
  • Consistently produce accurate results focusing on both test results and time consideration/expectations. Ensure all results consistently stand up to internal and external audit standards and criteria
  • Act as the point of escalation for complex problems, both of a technical and non-technical nature, assisting in the assessment of root cause and the resolution of problems
  • Develop ongoing business analyses which include; recommending, implementing and maintaining practices and processes to continuously increase productivity and efficiency
  • Ensure execution of GLP and ISO 17025 requirements with regard to operations and documentation requirements
  • Participate in internal and external audits and inspections
  • Lead continuous improvement activities with the Product Management team
  • Working with Operations peers and schedulers to ensure availability of resources and equipment to maximize utilization and throughput.
  • Lead and inspire a culture of safety first
  • The employee shall implement the Laboratory Quality Policy and perform their duties in accordance with existing project specific requirements, study plans, current Test Methods and Standard Operating Procedures
  • Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned
  • Work with Product Management Office (PMO) to track and update E29B's. Liaison with Canada Border Services Agency for destruction and E29B acquittal.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Post-Secondary education in chemical science, logistics or similar
  • 5 years of experience leading a team in a production or CRO environment
  • 5 years of experience with logistics
  • Detailed understanding of ISO 17025, GLP & GMP
