OVERVIEW: Reporting to the Sacred Care Case Manager, the Coordinator plays a vital role in fostering nurturing environments that honor cultural identity and support the well-being of youth.

The Sacred Care Support Worker Coordinator at Shawenim Abinoojii is dedicated to facilitating the recruitment, orientation, and supervision of Support Workers, ensuring the delivery of efficient and community-centered care for First Nation children and their families. This role embraces the holistic circle of care, maintaining communication, coordinating activities, and addressing concerns in collaboration with the Supervisor to uphold cultural identity, community connection, and individual needs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Recruitment of Respite & Support Workers
  • Facilitate Respite & Support Worker orientations.
  • Supervise overall activities of Sacred Care Shkabeh (Support Workers)
  • Deliver an efficient, community-asset based approach to providing care.
  • Conduct unannounced home visits at supervisor request.
  • Complete documentation of home visits and provide to Supervisor as requested.
  • Receive complaints and concerns; respond in a timely manner (in collaboration with Supervisor)
  • Identify and communicate to Supervisor the training needs of Support and Respite workers.
  • Compile & review Time Sheets for bi-weekly payroll submission to ensure Time Sheets are fully and accurately completed prior to submission.
  • Assist House Parents, Support and Respite Workers with proper completion of paperwork Participate in meetings with Community & SECFS
  • Coordinate activities and groups for House Parents and/or Support Staff
  • Update scheduling and distribute to Support Worker Calendar
  • Ensure communication with Support Workers, Families, and Agencies is clean and concise.
  • Maintain timely and effective communication with the holistic circle of care to support the care of youth.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of two years related experience in the helping field.
  • Strong understanding of approaches to supporting life skills development.
  • Knowledge of community-based resources.
  • Knowledge in the areas of Addictions, Attachment, Mental Health & Trauma and how it impacts young people.
  • Knowledge of the Child and Family Services (CFS) sector & foster care legislation.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of First Nations experiences, culture and philosophies.
  • Demonstrated skills and competence to establish supportive relationships.
  • Knowledge of assessment and crisis intervention.
  • Supervisory experience preferred, but not mandatory.
  • Ability to effectively manage conflict.
  • Knowledge of Community-based resources
  • Ability to work flexible schedule in order to accommodate the needs of the youth.
  • Satisfactory Child Abuse, Adult Abuse, Vulnerable Person Check and Criminal Record Check.
  • Excellent communication, organization, problem solving, and team skills.
  • Ability to speak Anishinaabe preferred.
