Our client is a market leader in designing and delivering workplace environments globally and is looking for a Sustainability Specialist based in Toronto, New York or Vancouver.In this role, you will work with an international joint sustainability, wellness and technology team to support their clients in their wellness and sustainability pursuits, including road mapping of Net Zero Carbon, implementation of WELL, BREEAM and other standards, as well as diving deep in sustainability portfolio programs. You will report to the team leaders in London but will have the option to work in any of their North American or European offices. In addition to being a key member in their team, your job will focus on helping global brands and high-profile clients define and execute various strategies.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with their architecture, design, strategy and engineering teams to develop best-in-class sustainable design standards, working to institutionalize sustainable design in all areas of the business
  • Work with their internal teams to improve their operations in line with their own sustainability vision and targets
  • Deliver certifications for their clients in WELL, LEED, BREEAM and other rating systems
  • Participate in the planning, designing, and implementation of client sustainability programs to define and achieve emission reduction objectives, including net zero goals, and wellness programs
  • Keep up to date with new developments/trends in sustainable and wellness design and construction
  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis related to certifications, decarbonization and net zero strategy
  • Educate and advise other teams on sustainability trends and project case studies
  • Deliver strategic consulting advice, excellent value, and quality service

Requirements:

The role would suit an individual with some experience in the construction industry, and sustainability. You'll be supporting your colleagues on their projects while helping to develop their internal teams sustainability progress.

Qualifications & Key Competencies:

  • Bachelors degree in a relevant field sustainability, environmental science, sustainable design, environmental engineering, or equivalent
  • Minimum of one industry qualification, or willingness to complete one within the first 3 months of hire: WELL, LEED, BREEAM, SKA, RESET, etc.
  • Experience of delivering sustainability consultancy support for clients, including the areas of wellness, energy and carbon (Net Zero Emissions), water, waste, circular economy, and biodiversity
  • Knowledge of international environmental legislation and sustainability issues
  • Experience of developing and reviewing approaches to environmental management in line with various standards and certifications
  • Knowledge of sustainable sourcing procedures (e.g. C2C, FSC timber chain of custody)
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to deal with all types and levels of professionals
  • Ability to manage multiple competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Health & Safety awareness

Nice To Haves:

  • Masters Degree in a relevant field sustainability, public health, environmental science, sustainable design, environmental engineering, or equivalent.
  • Strong analytical skills, with experience in qualitative and qualitative research and analysis methods.
  • Confident leading and working alone or as part of a team, with ability to adapt as required
  • Experience in project management
