JOB PURPOSE:

We are looking for an ambitious Summer Student to provide support to the financial department by managing daily accounting tasks. You will be part of a team of professionals working to maintain order and transparency for Islamic Relief Canada's finances.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Donation Revenue Management:

  • Record and reconcile donation revenues accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Work closely with the development team to ensure all donations are properly documented and categorized.

Financial Data Accuracy:

  • Maintain the accuracy and integrity of financial data in the organization's accounting system.
  • Perform regular reconciliations of accounts related to donation revenues.

Transaction Management:

  • Manage high volumes of financial transactions efficiently and accurately.
  • Process, review, and reconcile transactions related to donations, grants, and other revenue streams.

Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with non-profit standards, rules, regulations, and systems of internal control

Qualifications/Competencies:

Experience:

  • Demonstrate intermediate to advanced skills and knowledge of Excel, as well as other Microsoft Office applications
  • Experience in preparing detailed financial documents

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Highly detail-oriented
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate effectively across the organization
  • Good with numbers and figures and an analytical acumen
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Understanding of accounting and financial reporting principles and practices
  • Well-organized, and able to work well in a team environment
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada

As this is a Canada Summer Jobs position, all applicants must meet eligibility guidelines as specified by Service Canada in order to be considered for the above position: be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period*; be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment**; and, have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
