Primary Purpose: The Financial Controller is responsible for all accounting and financial duties, tasks and processes required to support the needs and efforts of all the companies' current and future operations.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Act as a primary contact for the accounting department.
  • Liaise with management, staff and external service providers to ensure the completion of finance department tasks.
  • Prepare and/or review month-end closing activities including balance sheet reconciliations and department cost allocations.
  • Prepare month-end and year-end financial statements for Abatement Technologies and related companies.
  • Take the lead on all financial audits conducted by third parties.
  • Provide detailed monthly analysis and reporting of inventory and work closely with Plant Controller to ensure accuracy of job costing within the production division.
  • Report identified trends that are critical to the company's financial performance to Senior Management.
  • Regularly meet with CFO, keeping them informed of significant Company issues, opportunities and developments.
  • Assist with the financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting.
  • Serve as point of escalation for Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Collection issues.
  • Oversee cash management, approve payables and execute cheque signing.
  • Oversee sales tax filings.
  • Recommend and assist with implementation of internal controls as needed.
  • Assist with the implementation of new accounting/financial related software as needed.
  • Continual search for improvement opportunities to both financial and operational policies and systems, while helping to drive a performance improvement culture across the company.
  • Organize, train and manage staff on the Accounting team, ensuring an effective team dynamic.

Supervisory Responsibility: Accounting team

Education and Work Experience: University degree in Accounting or Business Administration is required. Professional accounting designation (CPA) is considered an asset. Minimum of 5 years of related finance and accounting experience, including management responsibilities.

*Physical Demands and Working Conditions: Work is performed at a desk in a comfortable office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment such as computer, photocopier, telephone. Walking short distances and spending the majority of the time in front of a computer screen. Some climbing of stairs may be required. Moderate level of stress in terms of analyzing data, presenting, meeting deadlines and supervising staff.
