Who We Are: The Essex-Windsor Solid Waste Authority (EWSWA) is the governmental agency charged with the responsibility of providing an economical and environmentally conscious integrated solid waste management system for the County of Essex and the City of Windsor. The mission of the EWSWA is to provide programs to manage the solid, non-hazardous waste generated in the County of Essex and the City of Windsor in an environmentally sound manner through processes which include, but are not necessarily limited to reduction, reuse, recycling, composting, and landfilling.In A Nutshell:Reporting to the Manager, Finance and Administration for the Essex Windsor Solid Waste Authority, the Accounting Clerk B – EWSWA – Admin Office performs accounting and clerical duties on behalf of the EWSWA. Day in the Life:
  • Reconcile bank accounts as part of the EWSWA month-end procedures and post within EWSWA accounting software
  • Prepare journal entries for approval and post as required
  • Travel to Windsor Depot to empty safes of all cash payments received and deliver to Admin Office for deposit. Maintain cash sign out sheets
  • Process Bills of Lading and track tonnage associated with the sale of recyclable material from the Essex-Windsor Recycling Centre. Invoice customers where required. Confirm receipt of payment from customers for all loads
  • Receive and distribute accounts payable invoices for account coding and supervisor approval
  • Perform accounts payable duties (e.g. analyze invoices, prepare monthly compensation payments to host landfill municipalities, ensure the appropriate approvals are made before processing, process cheques, calculate HST rebates, monitor aging payables, etc.)
  • Perform account receivable duties which include but are not limited to the preparation of non-tipping fee sales invoices, calculation of HST, posting of sales invoices in the accounting system and the monitoring of aging receivables
  • Receive and review for accuracy non-landfill tipping fee accounts receivable cheques for deposit and code for GL distribution
  • Assist with the year-end financial statement audit by preparing working papers and reconciling various balance sheet/income statements
  • Audit cash floats at all sites and maintain petty cash
  • Prepare and submit quarterly HST reconciliation to the Canada Revenue Agency
  • Conduct physical inventory count at the Recycling Centre of all saleable merchandise
  • Assist in the EWSWA budget preparation as required
  • Post timesheet data for bi-weekly payroll in the absence of Admin. Assistant
  • Investigate and correct any discrepancies within the accounting system and make recommendations regarding improvements to existing procedures and practices
What We Are Looking For:
  • 3-year college diploma in the area of Business Administration/Accounting
  • 2-3 years of related experience
  • Working knowledge of Accpac or other accounting software, considered an asset
  • Working knowledge of the Microsoft Suite Programs
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and concepts
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Organizational skills, accuracy and attention to detail
  • Must possess a valid Class “G” Ontario Drivers license and access to personal vehicle
Hours of Work:Seven (7) paid hours per day between the hours of 8:00a.m. and 5:00 p.m., plus one-half (1/2) hour unpaid lunch Monday to Friday. What We Are Offering: $33.54 to $39.23 per hour, 35 hours per week, CUPE 2974.1 Band 10.
