Position Overview:

Working an average of 50 hours per week on jobsites in Northern Ontario, the Site Superintendent is responsible for overseeing all day-to-day project activities while establishing and coordinating priorities for work teams to ensure safety & efficiency and the meeting of deadlines, while adhering to approved policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Follow all established policies, procedures, and best practices as well as industry specific regulations
  • Review and ensure a clear understanding of scopes of work and associated drawings (including allowed manpower, equipment, materials, scheduling & delays) with project managers prior to commencing work
  • Assist with and/or prepare methodology, procedures and JHA's
  • Ensure procedures, and JHAs are in place and reviewed with clients prior to commencing work
  • Direct and coach supervisors for successful project completion
  • Report to the client as per contractual agreements
  • Assist and/or provide necessary equipment/tool list for job boxes
  • Communicate with Shop Supervisor and/or Project Manager to ensure all requirements are fulfilled including (required documentation for diesel equipment) and confirm delivery dates
  • Establish methods to meet work schedules and communicate with management, trade personnel, other departments and subcontractors to resolve problems and co-ordinate activities
  • Ensure proper documentation and logging of shipping and receiving materials and equipment from and to site
  • Obtain Project Manager approval prior to making commitments to customers for conducting changes in scope of work or extra work
  • Assist in evaluating required manpower, equipment, materials and time lines for customer pricing
  • Promptly advise Project Manager if site conditions are not as per provided scope of work or issued construction drawings
  • Ensure As Built drawings and commissioning binders are current and updated daily
  • Oversee and ensure compliance with the safety program and requirements (Pre-ops, Five-Point Safety System, Tool Box Safety Meetings, etc.)
  • Lead incident investigations with the assistance of the safety department and ensure proper submission in a timely manner
  • Conduct supervisor evaluations, oversee worker evaluations and make recommendations for promotions
  • Resolve work problems as well as manpower issues and recommend measures to improve productivity
  • Ensure tracking system of all site equipment, rentals, job boxes, etc. is being maintained at all times (i.e. rentals to be returned in a timely manner)
  • Oversee and ensure compliance with the maintenance program
  • Attend site meetings to discuss work progress, safety concerns, etc., complete action items from the meetings in a timely manner

Qualifications and Skills

  • Minimum Education: Completion of required common core program and supervisor training requirements. Other required training to be determined by project requirements and Project Manager.
  • Minimum Experience: 5 years of recent and related supervisory experience in a similar role.
  • Ability to always represent the company in a professional manner
  • Working knowledge of the OHSA “green book”
  • Effective communication skills
  • Good leadership and motivational capabilities
  • Good negotiation skills for customer interactions
  • Relevant computer skills (electronic correspondence, scheduling, etc.)
