Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Mine Operations Superintendent and operations team to execute short-term mine requirements;
  • Develop blast plan packages working with key site stakeholders to ensure process and procedures are followed;
  • Support optimisation of short-range schedules and designs, through application of sound engineering design scheduling methods;
  • Drive a continuous improvement culture within the Mine Engineering department through leadership and coordination of projects and activities;
  • Support mine operations projects and drill and blast technical team with direct impact to bottom line production and costs;
  • Optimize mine drill and blast, mine designs aiming to improve ore extraction and balance waste stripping ratio with long-term mine planning requirements;
  • Support project planning, budgeting and forecasting of required materials and supplies for the operations. This includes reporting on progress and analysis of key performance indicators;
  • Data analysis and trade-off studies to improve several areas of planning (drill and blast, dewatering, pit slope and production);
  • Reconcile & review demonstrated performance data with planning inputs to identify and recommend actions for improvement opportunities proactively;
  • Assist production staff in the completion of projects wherever necessary;
  • Assist with the design and implementation of strategies, forecasting, and long-term plans for the mine site.
  • Reporting to the Mine Engineering Superintendent, the role is based in the Mine Operations department.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of eight (8) years of experience in drill and blast, mine planning, and mine operations field experience;
  • Background in open pit optimization and data driven analysis;
  • Ability to drive accountability and achieve results;
  • Ability to communicate, share information and seek input from different teams;
  • Experience producing, developing and presenting reports;
  • Planning, time management, and problem-solving skills;
  • Engineering Degree or equivalent;
  • Experience working at a remote mine site and in a cross-cultural work environment.

Desired Assets:

  • Previous experience in open pit mining;
  • Experience in Geotech and/or dewatering planning;
  • Skills with Deswik mine planning/scheduling or other software.

Required qualifications in a Mining related discipline and extensive experience in open pit mining. It is envisaged that you have proven experience with mine planning, scheduling, mine design and planning. Coupled with this, the successful candidate will be a strategic thinker with superior reasoning and problem-solving skills, and excellent interpersonal skills.
