Description

The Day Camp Coordinator will lead in all various areas for the summer day camp program. They will encourage, support, respect, and demonstrate a positive, caring, energetic, attitude towards all who attend the day camps and other staff members. They also will direct the day Camp Leaders, Day Camp Counsellors, and Camp volunteers on the day-to-day operations of the camp program.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Work with the Children and Youth Coordinator to plan, coordinate and implement all programming for the North York Temple Summer Day Camp program.
  • Develop relationships with children, using empathy and active listening to encourage happy and well-developed children and youth.
  • Serve as first contact for families and other inquiries throughout the summer.
  • Delegate program responsibilities and provide input into the evaluation of team member performance.
  • Responsible for day-to-day operations of the camp program and creation and implementation of spiritual focused day camp

  • Provide orientation and training of all camp staff and volunteers; ensuring that all Salvation Army policies and procedures are being followed on a daily
  • Work cooperatively with the Children & Youth Coordinator/Corps Officer, church staff and volunteers in all aspects of the
  • Open and/or close the facility.

General Accountabilities:

· Perform other relevant duties as assigned, i.e., set-up, and camp cleanup. · Ensure the highest standard of health and safety for all campers, volunteers, and staff. · Assist with ensuring the emotional wellness and personal development of campers. · Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures.

· Support campers to develop socially, mentally, and spiritually.

· Know and act in accordance with policies and procedures of The Salvation Army to ensure the

safety and confidentiality of participants and information.

· Act in cases of urgency or emergency in alignment with camp policies and procedures.

  • Mentor camp counsellors providing leadership opportunities and skill
  • Make certain that all camp staff and volunteers are aware of safety procedures in case of "lockdown", fire, or other emergency related situations.

Normal hours of work: the hours of work and work schedule will be set by the supervisor as per operational requirements Monday to Friday, 8:15 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. and includes a ½ hour paid meal break.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Submit as required a Police Record Check (vulnerable sector check) that is acceptable to The Salvation Army in its sole discretion.
  • This position is funded in part through the Canada Summer Jobs Program and the following represents the applicant criteria:
  • aged 15 to 30 years at the beginning of the employment period;
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has
    • been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment*; and,
  • holds a valid Social Insurance Number; and,
  • be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
  • *International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada.
  • An ongoing condition of employment is the ability to maintain immigration status to legally remain and work in Canada which is supported by valid immigration documents.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Completed Secondary School.
  • A current valid Standard First Aid and CPR certificate, or willingness to obtain is required.

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Minimum of 2-years prior related experience in a day camp leadership role.
  • Prior experience supervising staff and volunteers
  • Have own computer with reliable internet connection for meetings that may be conducted online.
  • Must have excellent written, verbal and computer skills (this includes but not limited to video editing)
