Henka Divorce Law & Mediation, is a busy, progressive law firm with a friendly and professional atmosphere. We operate a paperless, technology-oriented practice with a focus on providing superior client service, focusing all of our services on out-of-court resolution services. All of our client service is conducted remotely, with our clients trained to meet with us through Zoom, and submit their documents through their personal client portal, and execute documents remotely. Our main office is in Lloydminster, Alberta, and we have a satellite office in Edmonton Alberta. We may be seeking to establish additional satellite offices depending on the geographic location of the successful candidate. Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Lawyer and Mediator to join our team virtually. This is a remote position, allowing you to work from the comfort of your own home or anywhere with a stable internet connection and a confidential space during client interactions. As a Virtual Lawyer and Mediator, you will provide legal advice, representation, and mediation services to our diverse range of clients.

Responsibilities

  1. Legal Consultation: Offer professional legal advice, guidance, and representation to clients in family law.
  2. Mediation: Conduct virtual mediation sessions to help clients resolve disputes outside of the courtroom. Act as a neutral third party facilitating discussions, promoting understanding, and facilitating the negotiation process to reach mutually acceptable agreements.
  3. Document Drafting and Review: Draft, review, and negotiate legal documents, including contracts, agreements, and legal correspondences. Ensure accuracy, clarity, and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  4. Research and Analysis: Conduct legal research and analysis to prepare cases, support legal arguments, and stay updated on legal precedents and developments. Provide accurate and timely legal opinions and recommendations to clients.
  5. Case Management: Manage a caseload and handle all aspects of case preparation, including document organization, scheduling, preparation of pleadings, and representation in court proceedings or hearings when necessary.
  6. Client Communication: Maintain regular communication with clients to provide updates, answer questions, and address concerns. Provide exceptional client service by demonstrating empathy, understanding, and professionalism.
  7. Collaboration with Team: Collaborate with colleagues, paralegals, and other professionals within the firm to strategize and ensure the best possible outcome for clients. Participate in team meetings and contribute expertise to ongoing cases or projects.

Qualifications

  1. Juris Doctor (JD) or Bachelor of Laws degree from an accredited law school.
  2. Active license to practice law in Alberta and/or Saskatchewan. Additional licenses in other jurisdictions will be considered an asset.
  3. Proven experience as a lawyer, with expertise in family law.
  4. Mediation certification or proven experience in conducting mediations.
