Position Overview:
Penny Appeal Canada is seeking a dedicated and motivated Finance Officer to join our team as part of the Canada Summer Jobs program. The Finance Officer will play a crucial role in supporting the finance department in various accounting and administrative tasks. This is an excellent opportunity for a student or recent graduate interested in gaining hands-on experience in finance within the nonprofit sector.
Responsibilities:

  • Assist in processing financial transactions, including accounts payable and accounts receivable.
  • Maintain accurate records of financial transactions and ensure compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
  • Support the finance team in budget monitoring, forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Assist with the preparation of financial statements and reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with team members to reconcile financial discrepancies and resolve any issues in a timely manner.
  • Assist in conducting financial analysis and providing recommendations for improvement.
  • Support the audit process by preparing documentation and assisting auditors as needed.
  • Provide administrative support to the finance department, including filing, data entry, and correspondence management.
  • Adhere to confidentiality and data protection policies in handling financial information.


Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in or recent graduate of a Bachelor's degree program in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP).
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated interest in the non-profit sector and humanitarian work is an asset.
  • Must be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act* (international students are not eligible)
