What you will be doing:

As a Family Connector, you will provide in-home and community-based support to vulnerable children and families who have Children's Services involvement. Operating on a flexible work schedule which includes some evenings and weekends, you will build therapeutic relationships with parents using basic counselling skills and a trauma informed care approach. You will work as a member of a collaborative team and will be responsible for the coordination, initiation, and mobilization of internal and external resources required to meet the service plan objectives. You have excellent problem solving, organizational, and collaborative skills.

  • Support family time between children in care and their parents and/or significant others in their life. Amplify caregivers strengths while modeling and teaching parenting skills, child development, play, structure and routine, and positive discipline.
  • Support children and parents to connect with their culture and support Indigenous families to participate in ceremony.
  • Identify, strengthen and reconnect relationships with family, kin, and friends creating long term support for the wellbeing, reunification and safety of the children.
  • Assess ongoing risk for children and families receiving services as per the Child Youth and Family Enhancement Act (CYFEA)
  • Transport parents and children as needed between appointments and scheduled family time.
  • Provide on-call support to families 24/7 on a rotational basis


What you will bring to the role:

  • Degree in Child & Youth Care, Social Work (or)
  • Degree in Human Services (Psychology, Sociology, Education, Human Ecology or Early Childhood Development) with experience in the field.

(or)

  • Diploma in Child & Youth Care or Social Work with related experience (or)
  • Certificate in Human Services Sector with extensive experience with Indigenous culture and communities.

Background Check Process and Requirements:

As a part of the selection process, The Family Centre will conduct reference checks with your most recent employers.

  • Police Information Check- Vulnerable Sector (completed within the last 6months)
  • Child Intervention Records Check (completed within the last 6 months)
  • Registration with a professional body, if eligible (such as RSW)
  • $2 million Vehicle Liability Insurance Reliable Vehicle, available for regular use and valid driver's license
  • 5-years Driver Abstract
  • Our Children Are Sacred Youth Suicide Prevention Training or ASIST Suicide Intervention Training within 3 months of start date
  • Standard First Aid Level C CPR within 3 months of start date.
