We are currently seeking to add a Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Field Advisor to our team.

Job Type: Permanent, Full-time

Job Location: Richmond, BC office & travel within BC and Alberta

Reports To: Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Manager

Department: People & Culture

The HSE Field Advisor at KBL Environmental will be instrumental in safeguarding our operations' health, safety, and environmental compliance. Working closely with field teams, management, and regulatory agencies, they implement and uphold best practices in HSE protocols. Additionally, the position is to provide crucial health and safety support to our operations teams, leading the development of a front-line safety program. Responsibilities will include training, auditing, and coaching field and management staff on their responsibilities within the health and safety management program.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conducting regular site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with HSE regulations and company policies.
  • Developing and implementing HSE procedures, guidelines, and training programs to foster a culture of safety and environmental responsibility.
  • Providing guidance and support to field personnel on hazard identification, risk assessment, and incident investigation.
  • Collaborating with project managers to integrate HSE requirements into project planning and execution.
  • Staying updated on relevant HSE regulations and industry standards to ensure company compliance.
  • Participating in HSE meetings, committees, and initiatives to drive continuous improvement in HSE performance.
  • Monitoring and analyzing HSE metrics and trends, and reporting regularly to management.
  • Serving as a liaison with regulatory agencies, customers, and stakeholders on HSE matters.
  • Responding promptly to HSE incidents, emergencies, and inquiries, and implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Supporting the development and maintenance of emergency response plans and procedures.
  • Providing field support to ensure adherence to KBL Life Saving Rules and the HSMS.
  • Maintaining a high level of in-person field support (minimum 50% of time) and being willing to travel for extended periods.
  • Supporting core systems such as SiteDocs, WorkHub, work permitting, job safety analysis, safety orientations, and COR audit.
  • Developing and maintaining components of the HSMS as requested.
  • Managing injury management processes and return-to-work planning.
  • Ensuring communication and consistency through active engagement in safety meetings and general safety communications.
  • Continuously progressing personal development, including maintaining up-to-date safety tickets and related training.
  • Providing additional support as required

  • Valid Drivers Licence

Physical Requirements

Must be physically fit and able to lift weights up to 50 lbs.

Working Environment

Primarily an office-based position with travel requirement to provide support to KBL operations. Willingness to travel for extended periods of time (2-4 days at a time)

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 3 - 5 years direct experience in industry-related operations.
  • A High School Diploma.
  • OHS Certificate or NCSO designation.
  • Working knowledge of safety management systems and safe work practices.
  • Practical knowledge and experience in training and coaching staff.
  • A broad understanding of the HSE regulatory process and principles.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work well under pressure.
  • Strong ability to build working relationships and contacts within the organization as well as with external regulators, vendors, and contractors.
  • High proficiency in MS office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Formal incident investigation training e.g., SCAT, Root Cause Analysis, etc. considered an asset.
  • COR auditing experience is considered a strong asset.
  • Hands-on experience performing operational tasks is considered a strong asset.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who live and maintain a permanent residence within the area where the main office is located.
