THE OPPORTUNITY
Triton Environmental Consultants Ltd. (“Triton”) is seeking highly motivated and enthusiastic Aquatic Biologists, at all experience levels, to join a well-established team of environmental professionals in our Kamloops, BC office and be part of exciting ongoing projects that are integral to building the local and provincial community.
This position will appeal to individuals with a passion for working outdoors and who thrive in a fast-paced consulting environment. Successful candidates will be part of a team building world-class projects that balance environmental stewardship with responsible resource development.
Responsibilities, depending on experience level, include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Providing technical aquatics expertise and/or support to collaborative project teams
  • Managing and/or helping support aquatic programs
  • Managing and/or helping to support tasks and projects according to approved scopes of works and delivering quality reports on schedule
  • Liaising with on-site client representatives and contractors
  • Providing and/or supporting quality and independent review for project
  • Understanding Environmental Best Management Practices and potentially advising clients
  • Working collaboratively within the Triton corporate culture

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Skills and qualifications, ranging with experience level, will be in the following areas:
  • B.Sc. in biology or related field
  • Appropriate professional designation such as R.P.Bio., R.B.Tech, or PAg is preferred and is required for consideration of a senior role.
  • Experience in aquatics biology
  • Technical knowledge about fish biology and identification, fish sampling, and salvage techniques
  • Experience with installing and maintaining instream isolations
  • Multi-jurisdictional knowledge about environmental regulations, policies, and permit application processes
  • Operation and maintenance of required field equipment
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and collaborative working style
  • Superior problem-solving skills, with the ability to think outside the box
  • Proficient in the operation of off-highway vehicles
  • Valid driver's licence from a Canadian province or territory acceptable for driving alone and with passengers in a work setting
  • Experience with operating boats, including jet-drive, is considered an asset.

CONTRACT TERM DURATION
This is a temporary term position, that is targeted to start June 1, 2024, and going until October 31, 2024. There is potential that there could be an extension of the contract or the opportunity for a permanent full-time role.
COMPENSATON
The compensation is wide-ranging and dependent upon candidate experience and qualifications. The pay range for junior staff can start at $23 dollars per hour going up to $54 per hour for more senior staff.
